we have bought a Visualize J5600 and with it we bought a PCI 1000Base-T.
I have installed hpux11. We mounted the lan card, but the system doesn't see it. In the instruction is written to install the software 1000Base-SX/T A492*A.
I have installed from HP-UX Application Software December 1999 the A4926A drivers, called 1000BaseSX PCI Gigabit Ethernet LAN Driver. But the system doesn't see the lan card. With ioscan and with lanscan and with sam i didn't see it. Why? Do i need to put the newest driver so that lan card can be seen?? If yes where can i find them??
Thanks for any help.

Re: PCI 1000Base-T
a hardware error. Try to remove the card and install it again.
You should see the lan card in ioscan even without
driver but in status UNCLAIMED.

Re: PCI 1000Base-T
- add the driver "gelan" to your kernel.
- install patch PHSS_21083.
I'm sending you a flowchart for configuration tests.
good luck.

Re: PCI 1000Base-T
When i do an ioscan -funC lan i have:
lan 0 10/0/12/0 btlan3 CLAIMED INTERFACE PCI Ethernet (10110019) /dev/ether0
I think this is the lancard on the motherboard..this works and using it i'm in the net.
Why my Gigabit ethernet lancard isn't seen?

Re: PCI 1000Base-T
Verify the driver (gelan) was loaded in the kernel by entering the following command at the HP-UX prompt
# what /stand/vmunix | grep gelan
If you get a string returned you successfully installed the driver and you might deal with a hardware problem.
If you don't get anything back, the installation of the software failed and you might consult /var/adm/sw/swagent.log (+swinstall.log) for errors during installation.

Re: PCI 1000Base-T
what /stand/vmunix | grep gelan
gelan 1000Base-SX Revision: B.11.00.09 - Oct 1999 18:35:08
So you think it's a hardware problem??
Isn't it possible that the drivers are wrong or old for this lancard?? In the installation instructions is written that the lancard needs 1000Base-SX/T..the drivers i put aren't .../T
Are they the same??

Re: PCI 1000Base-T
Even in the case you installed the wrong driver (which I really do not think!), I would still expect the lan interface to show up in ioscan (with UNKNOWN displayed in the driver column and s/w state UNCLAIMED). Since you don't see anything in ioscan (?), I tend to say that this is a h/w problem.

Re: PCI 1000Base-T
I don't know whether this specific problem is fixed with it though. Make sure you also install the dependencies to this patch!

Re: PCI 1000Base-T
PHCO_21845 - PHKL_23814 PHNE_22962 PHSS_23185..
i have also installed PHNE_22930 but with swlist i didn't see it, but if i try to install it, it fails beacuse says that it is installed yet.
I have the same problem...i can't configurate the lancard. I run SAM and under Network Interface card i have:
Card Type: 1000Base-T
Interface name: lan1
Status: Not Configured
When i try to configure it, i have a window error: Configuration of this N.I.C is not supported with this version of driver product. Please install the latest version or contact the support personnel for further assistance.
On the hp site, are there the latest drivers of this lancard?
I have installed:
1) patches above
2) A4926A - 1000BaseSX PCI Gigabit Ethernet LAN Driver
3) Quality Pack for December 2000
4) General Release Patches, November 1999 (ACE)
5) XSWHWCR1100 March 2001
When i installed the latest XSWGR1100 March 2001 the system crushed.
Any help?

SolutionBut here is another suggestion.
0) Run "swconfig \*". This configures all unconfigured filesets. This is always a good trick with SAM problems. Don't get alarmed about all software being selected. Most of the software will be skipped.
1) Check that the interface looks up ok in lanscan and ioscan.
2) Check the LED on the interface. What colour does it have?
3) Check the files /usr/newconfig/etc/rc.config.d/hpgelanconf (provided with the patch) and /etc/rc.config.d/hpgelanconf. Are they diffferent? I would recommend to copy /usr/newconfig/etc/rc.config.d/hpgelanconf over /etc/rc.config.d/hpgelanconf and to reboot.
So much for now.

Re: PCI 1000Base-T
I did the swconfig and checked those two files. They are the same.
I hope that now it will work, also if i couldn't modify it.
Really many thanks for your kindly help Carsten.

Tarek
