Perfomance : Swap-Outs

Dear all,

PSA.

As could be seen in the attached doc, swap-outs in one of my production box is 1/sec. CPU WIO is only 20%, rare rogue page outs/sec and run queues are at an average of 4.

My performance analyst is complaining that number of swap-outs is unacceptable in the box.

I would appreciate if anyone could tell me whether the attached performance metrics are within the allowable limit or they are abnormal.

I have 1GB of memory in the system with 3 GB swap. Memory swap has been enabled (swapmem_on set to 1) and dbc_min_pct is at 5% and dbc_max_pct is at 30%).

There was no attachment to your message.

But, just as a guide, 20% WIO is not acceptable - it means your completely i/o bound. Any pageouts (from vmstat - po field) > the ocassional 1 are an indication of memory pressure and thus degrading performance. I wouldnt accept a server running at 100% memory or pageouts.

cant open the attachment. It thinks its winzip but if I save it do disk its not winzip, or gzip or compress. What format is it in ??
