performance utilities

hi all,

I need some advice on what are the bundle in tools/utilities to use on HP-UX 11 to analyse the system performance. If possible, I need some thing that can show in graphical format. And where is the best site to look into on all the HP systems performance issue.

Re: performance utilities

The GlancePlus/iX Trial Demo is set for one customer trial demo period for
each major release of the O/S.

The trial period has
been extended to 120 days for the convenience of customers who are
evaluating the product and to compensate for the no-renewal policy.

Re: performance utilities

While GlancePlus is great it is not a bundled in to HP-UX. As to bundled tools nothing is graphical. You have 'sar', 'top', 'vmstat', and the network tools like 'netstat', 'lanadmin' and 'nfsstat'. These lists are not complete but should give you a starting point. Please see the on-line man pages for help in using these tools.

I hope this helps. =- Wesley -=

Re: performance utilities

Hello? No reccomendations except HP products?

I'd like to recommend SOS by Lund Performance Solutions along with their Performance Gallery Gold. I've used it for a coon's age and recommend it highly. It too has a free trial period and excellent support. Their web site is www.lund.com. And no, I don't work for them, I just think highly of their products.

Re: performance utilities

If you are looking for nice lean numbers only, and dont mind working a bit....
I usually use sar and vmstat. Both can show you much about your system and are free. Also, sar is available on HP-UX, SunOS/Solaris and Irix. (not sure about AIX). If you can use sar you can monitor the big boys anyway (Sun and HP).

If you need automation of monitors, notifications, and lots of pretty pictures to impress the boss (bosses like pretty pictures) the Glance is the way to go.
(Strangely most boss types dont mind paying for pretty pictures! ) HE HE
