Permission of /etc/inetd.conf

If I change the permissions of /etc/inetd.conf to 600 as a part of hardening, would it cause a problem

Well the only thing that should read inetd.conf is inetd itself which runs as root, but inetd.conf I think defaults to 644 (-rw-r--r--) anyway - what do you think is wrong with thopse perms?

well...client wants it to be like that

/etc/inetd.conf-- 600

and what does the client think he will get by only root being able to read this file?

even if you set perms on the file to 600 any other user can still issue:

netstat -af inet

and see what ports are open on the host anyway - so I really don't see what this protects against... still I can't see it mattering too much unless some third part product wants to check the contents of that file
