persistant and legacy device file
Hi All,
What is the diference between persistant and legacy device file.

The legacy device file e.g. /dev/dsk/c1t2d3 is path dependend and you have one per path.
The new DSF are not path dependend and you have one per device, e.g. /dev/disk/disk7
To translate it use
# ioscan -m dsf

Persistent device files ("/dev/disk") use device unique ID to identify the device(SAN devices which have unique WWN). And Legacy ("/dev/dsk", ctd) devices are created one for each ctd path. User need to keep track of the active path using multipathing software for ctd devices. There is document "HP-UX 11i v3 Persistent DSF Migration Guide" for more information on the persistent and legacy devices. You can check them using "ioscan -m dsf".
