nohup /usr/sbin/pfs_mountd &
nohup /usr/sbin/pfsd &
and still couldn't do anything with the CDROM. However, now i can't run BDF or ioscan. systems says NFS server is not responding. I know pfs uses nfs however we don't run it on our systems. is there any way out of this with out rebooting the server?

Re: pfs_mount and system problems
Unfortunatley no , this would need only a system reboot , though this will only be problem in bdf and ls where in it checks for the disk .
In case you end up messing the pfs_mount the better way out is to ps -aef | grep pfs and kill the process with their ids starting from the least to the highest value.

SolutionWell, don't waste any more time; reboot. The escalating CPU usage, the slow 'bdf' and 'ls' output are all symptomatic of a 'pfs_mount' gone wrong. If you kill the daemons in the wrong order (i.e. not the opposite) of the way they were started, you end up in this situation.
I suggest you be on the lookout for a long-overdue mechanism which obviates pfs_mounts. It's available now in 11.11 and should be next month (June) in 11.0. In 11.11 the enabling patches are:
PHCO_25841
PHKL_26269
PHKL_25760

Re: pfs_mount and system problems
pfs is notorious for this type of situations. You have to reboot the system to get out of this.
Hope this helps.
