PHSS_37312 (Integrity VM) - VM guest hangs during installation

Hi,

My attempt to install PHSS_37312 patch (as per Release Notes) fails.

NOTE: The patch fileset "PHSS_37312.HPVM-CORE,r=1.0" may only be installed upon a previously installed base fileset. The specification for this base fileset is

"HPVM.HPVM-CORE,fr=A.03.50,v=HP". Since there is no fileset on the target or selected from the source which matches this specification, fileset "PHSS_37312.HPVM-CORE,r=1.0" will be excluded.

Matter the fact HPVM.HPVM-CORE is installed and configured.

# swlist -l fileset HPVM.HPVM-CORE

HPVM.HPVM-CORE A.03.50.01 Integrity VM HPVM Core

# swlist -l fileset -a state | grep HPVM.HPVM-CORE HPVM.HPVM-CORE configured

Missing PHSS_37312 pach on the VM host server might be a reason for interment hanging of "VM guest" server installation (either from DVD or Ignite server).

"VM host" OS is

HPUX11i-OE-MC B.11.23.0712 HP-UX Mission Critical Operating Environment Component

I tried (succesfuly) to reinstall HPVM.HPVM-CORE product, but still experiencing the problem.


Any other suggestion?

Did you read the Special Installation Instructions?

Special Installation Instructions:
Please note that installing or removing this patch
will stop and restart HPVM. So, any currently running
guests must be shut down before installing or removing this
patch. If there are any guests running, the patch
installation or removal will fail and the message:
ERROR: Guests are running, all guests must be shut down.
will be present in the swjob output.

It is strongly recommended that users shutdown the guests
by using the appropriate shutdown command from within
the guest.

Yes, I did shutdown all the VM guests before PHSS_37312 installation.

And it is still failing?

I am wondering if PHSS_37312 is only applicable to A.03.50 and not A.03.50.01 the version I am running on VM host?

As you can see, no A.03.50.01 version. How have you installed Vntegrity VM ? Factory integrated ?

I check on a December 2007 Mission Critical CDs to check if there is a A.03.50.01 HPVM Core

OK, silly question maybe, but have you installed PHSS_37306, and if so did this install fine?
If not, try installing that VM3.50 patch to see what results that gives.
If you still have an issue, this may require you log a call with your local HP Response Centre

HPVM V3.50 trial is marked as A.03.50.01

BTW the interment problem I am experiencing is that during the installation VM guest hangs after memory installation is listed:

If I understand your problem right, the guest hangs while you install the patch on the host?

No, PHSS_37312 installation fails with the error and I think that missing that patch has something to do with VM Guest HPUX operating system installation hanging?

Both installations.

But it is Ignite installation that hangs more often then local DVD installation

As you have the trial version, this shows up as A.03.05.01, and is actually unsupported, it is only for a 90 day evaluation.
As a result, the patch is not designed to be installed on teh trial version, hence your issue.
