Hello,
On a HP Visualize Workstations 785/B 1000 with an HP-UX 10.20 on it, I want to add a RAM card.
(there is 512 Mb and I have to add 512 in addition).
I have two questions :
1) does my workstation (or the system) automatically recognize the additional memory card ?
2) If yes, does I change the size of my swap partition or not (actually 1 Gb)? I want to say in fact : is it obligatory ?
Thanks a lot in advance for your reply

Re: physical upgrade of memory (RAM)
Hi,
Your system should automatically identify the memory if is compatible. you should not have to do anything.
Increasing the swap would be a good idea but not necessary. Depends on how the system is used. If it is used heavily, it would be a good idea to increase the swap and add dump if you need a crash dump from the system.
Hope this helps.

Re: physical upgrade of memory (RAM)
Hi,
Your system should pick up the additional memory with no problems.
It is recommended to have swap configured as double the amount of physical memory in a system, so in this case it should be 2Gb.
HTH,
Peter
