Ping problem
I am working in a software company as a
HP-UX adminstrator.
One of my user compiled a program which
includes pinging to the other machine.
while running this,it aborted at some step.
Now none of the userid of that machine could
able to ping other than root.
It says
"Ping:soket permission denied."
Any one faced this kind of problem.
Thanks & Regards
R.Suresh.

Re: Ping problem
Your user is not allowed to cerate a socket in a tmp - directory.
Check the acces rights for this.

Re: Ping problem
Thanks for your response,
I am able to create files on /tmp as well as
/var/tmp from that user.
I feel some socket lock happend for ping.
How can I find & remove it?
Thanks

Re: Ping problem
run a ping as root and try to find the socket with the find and the ctime parameter.
I am not really sure, where the socket will be created.

Re: Ping problem
It defines exactly the same problem and lists the solution.
