Pinging Problems

We have one lan with hp itanuim servers interconnected in a lan through 2 cisco 3750g switches.

This lan is uplinked to an existing lan with a crossed cable.

The uplink ports on both lan's switches have been configured as trunk ports.

Now the Problem is:
1. We are having difficulty pinging across the lans intermitently.
2. We are having problems sometimes with accessing some of the itanium servers.
3. There are times that everything works fine without breaks.

Can anyone suggust some possible solutions to these problems.

Re: Pinging Problems

Shalom Geoffrey,

More than likely its a network problem and not a system problem.

1) Does another system on the same switch port have the same behavior.
2) Uplink with a cross connect cables is a little unusual.
3) When the problem is happening, physically inspect your Itanium system, see if the link lights are on or off.
4) Confirm hardware integrity with either cstm, mstm or xstm
5) Have the switch configuration checked.
6) Monitor network traffic with ethereal or its successor wireshark. This can help you isolate errors.
