Re: Please Post Forums Issues - November/December 2004

Hi Dan,

Nice to see you back.

I totally agree with A. Clay's post. Thread closed would only show a marker from where no more points would be assigned for new answers. But comments would still be available. I've already been in the situation where author closed the thread and I know he's god a bad solution. I've certainly already post bad answers and author closed thread after me. And this doesn't only cause damage to the author, but to all the ones searching in the forums.
Author could then re-open thread to assign points if he think this new solution deserve it.

Very good idea Clay.

Regards,

Fred

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - November/December 2004

A. Clay and others, good thoughts on the 'closed thread' feature. I'll work on getting it tweaked, not sure when we could get something into production, but will focus on it.

Thanks again for the feedback.

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - November/December 2004

hi,

wonder if it is worthwhile to have the forums accessible through browsers that do not have javascript capability (e.g. lynx/w3m). e.g. right now i cannot submit replies through w3m.

another thing is that almost all links and attachments are converted into javascript links that popup a new window. my personal preference is to open all links in the current window, i guess there may be some others who prefer it this way.

thanks and regards

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - November/December 2004

Is there any chance of a system/programming sub-section. We do get the occasional question come up in the general sub-section dealing with C/C++/Linker issues. Lump in kernel parameters and system calls and you'd have a good sub-section that wouldn't be of interest to the general audience and wouldn't fill up that sub-section?

Just a thought, I'll get my coat.

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - November/December 2004

Cheryl - I haven't been posting language issues, but I have seen a few come up under general, I must admit I missed the languages and scripts section, I read it as scripting languages (such as perl etc) rather than anything to do with system programming. I know, RTFM.

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - November/December 2004

Apparently we've got a new member who is having a little difficulty figuring out how to post a question. He's managed to get two "null" subjects posted (I thought that was fixed!?):

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - November/December 2004

Thanks, Melvyn! At the rate he's going, he's going to run out of categories pretty soon, though. I wonder if he's wondering why nobody is replying to him?

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - November/December 2004

yep, Anh has posted several questions without a subject which make it rather difficult to open them.
I guess he's fooling around because he posted in nearly every category.

Even clicking on the "null" header in his profile is no use.

Thierry.
