Re: Please Post Forums Issues - October 2005

BTW, it's comforting to know that you guys are having the same problem a lot of us are having. Here's an excerpt from you opening message:

"Thank
s to everyone for your continued feedback."

The Random Carriage Return Generator seems to be working fine. Now can we turn it off!!!

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - October 2005

Cheryl, Dan,

please have a look at

http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=966979

It is posted by Ian Derringer (CA1223413).

Later on there is a complaint that he can not assign points. "he" being Ian Derringer, but now CA1214375

Seems both are one and the same.

Any chance to merge those accounts?

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - October 2005

Hi,

This thread of "show your face" http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=968483 is moved to ITRC forums questions -> general forums. It is not that much visible as like HPUX -> General. It is a thread to see each others so that it will be good where more members there.

Plz move that thread to hpux -> general :) Thanks for doing.

best wishes,
-Muthu

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - October 2005

Muthukumar,
I'd disagree; surely ITRC forums questions -> general forums is exactly the right place (if there is a place for such threads)? (But then, I'm one of those who thinks that this thread belongs there too).

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - October 2005

Bravo Andrew!

I've been trying to make the same point - these forums are meant for HP users, not just HP-UX users (see my post in this thread from 10/9).

The same holds true for the statistics postings - they don't belong in HP-UX-general either.

But I think our comments are falling on deaf ears...

Andrew, Allen,

just to let you know there ARE those that share that opinion!

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - October 2005

About stats ...

They belong to HP-UX forum, since Procura's scripts monitor only the members who post in HP-UX forum.

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - October 2005

Are you quite sure about that, Alex? I know it's now limited to the ITRC as opposed to the business forums, but had no idea only points for HP-UX forums were being counted.

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - October 2005

AFAIK, it monitors users that posted in HP-UX forum.

Even if you are most active in Linux or VMS, but for example posted in this thread asking HP moderators for something, you are now monitored too.

Just pick some user that never posted in HP-UX and you'll see that he has no data in stats.

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - October 2005

If that is the case, then it really should be made clear that that is what is happening. I've not seen that mentioned at all in the statistics threads or on Procura's web site (it took a while before it was clear what was happening with regard to the Business Forums points, but that is clear now).

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - October 2005

Alex, I think you are wrong; for example, http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/publicProfile.do?userId=BR722778&forumId=1 has not posted in the HP-UX forums, but appears in your stats (which I understand are based on Procura's) on http://www.volac.info/itrcstats/users.php?page=22

So I think that means it would be just as reasonable for the stats to appear on the general page.

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - October 2005

Well, may be I wrong. But still, I think they should stay here, since there are very small amount of ppl who reads that forum.

Since Merijn and me most active here and this forum is the most active forum in ITRC, I think the stats belongs to this forum. They are for over 3 years and I don't see any reason to change it.

Yes, my stats based on the data collected by Merijn, I just parse html files and insert them into the DB.

Cheryl, Dan,

HPUX lost in VMS:

(I would have an easy answer if it were about VMS!)

Alex,

I _KNOW_ this to be wrong!
In VMS it is a special distinction to be exclusively active in VMS, and quite a few congrats threads make special mention of that fact!

And if the _Forums issues_ and the _Statistics_ streams were to be moved to the _Regarding ITRC forums_ forum, those would attract quite some more attention for that reason alone!

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - October 2005

Why all guess? Everyone is able to fetch, browse and study the scripts that I use to analyse the forum(s)

Fetch! http://mirrors.develooper.com/hpux/Stats.tgz (woof!)

http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/memberList.do?forumId=1&filterType=name&sortOrder=a

is where I start. If you're on those lists, you're in the stats.
You are only reported if you have any points at all (in those lists)
I only scan a-z, as hp also does not offer an index for members with names outside that range (and, yes, there are some)
Your stats are only updated if the points reported in those lists are higher than the previous scan.

Personally I don't care at all where these stats are posted, as long as people read and enjoy them. On every new month I post a new thread and mail the URL to Dan and Cheryll, who then update the link on the main page.
Stats are run every wednesday round the clock of 04:00 MET. When I dump the stats on my site, Alex fetches them there, and converts them to his wonderful presentation scheme.

That's all folks!

I just realized the month of October passed without me having a single issue posting. At least that I can remember at my reduced activity level.

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - October 2005

I wonder if the (clear>>) button on the "reply to message" dialogue can be moved a bit aside. When I hit (edit>>), the entry field came up empty :-(

My theory is that I must have had some tremors today, because the (clear>>) button is at the same screen location as (edit>>). Given the right timing it wiped out some of my responses :-( :-(
