Re: Please Post Your Forums Issues - June/July 2004!

A thread without a thread by Sachin in HP-UX general. Nothing to click on.

I would think someone in forums can get rid of it.

Re: Please Post Your Forums Issues - June/July 2004!

Hi !

I'm having trouble with ITRC and Opera. I'm using Opera as a browser for every web site, but I can not reply on ITRC using it.
"submit" button gives me an error. When I hit it, I see page http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/postanswertrxn.do in adress bar and get a 404 error.

Regards,

Fred

Re: Please Post Your Forums Issues - June/July 2004!

Fred, which version of Opera?

A number of the users on this forum use Opera quite successfully and have for quite some time.

If you have a look through the old issues threads, you'll see the version numbers of which have been prooven to work quite well.

Re: Please Post Your Forums Issues - June/July 2004!

If you are using Opera 7.2X then you will not be able to reply.

Upgrade to the latest version of Opera you should be good to go.

I am using Opera 7.50 and it is working fine.

Re: Please Post Your Forums Issues - June/July 2004!

I'm using 7.20. I will take time to upgrade.

I did install this version because there are not french packages for all versions...

Thanks,

Fred

Re: Please Post Your Forums Issues - June/July 2004!

Hi Dan,

I'm brand new to the ITRC forums, so I apologize if this is the wrong place to post a suggested enhancement.

I'd like to see an additional option in the "view" pull-down menu for displaying forum items. Today they include selections like "threads with solutions" and "questions with no replies." However, what I don't see is a view of questions that have replies but have not been designated as having a "magic" reply.

My reasoning is this - I'm looking through the forum for questions I can potentially add value to, so I'm not interested in the "rabbit" threads as they've already found a solution. However, I'm not only interested in those threads that have 0 replies because there are many threads with replies that don't contain the real solution. Basically I'm trying to "filter out the rabbits" to see if there is a thread where I can provide help.

If there is already a way to do this then I apologize for not finding it. If there is a better way to suggest enhancements please let me know that as well.

Best regards,

Dave

Dave,

don't expect a solution behind every bunny! Since the poster rate the answers, not everyone cares to do it carefully.

Re: Please Post Your Forums Issues - June/July 2004!

Point taken.

Another enhancement request I've thought of would be to add the ability to refresh the forum window on a configurable basis. In other words, if my browser window sits in the main HP-UX forum screen (or some other forum screen), I'd like to be able to have that screen refresh every 1 or 2 or 5 or 10 or whatever...minutes later to display any newly arriving threads.

I find myself sitting in the main HP-UX forum and periodically hitting the F5 button to refresh the list to see if any new threads have arrived and I thought it would be nice if this were available as a configurable timer.

Regards,

Dave

Re: Please Post Your Forums Issues - June/July 2004!

Dave,

Try using the Opera browser. The reload every xx seconds/minutes is built into Opera. In my mind that is where the functionality belongs, not on the site itself, but that's just my opinion.

Re: Please Post Your Forums Issues - June/July 2004!

There's a question with no subject in the HP-UX Forum. Don't know how to give a link for it.

Other Point : Patrick, Dave,
There ares sites that have this feature to reload a page every X minutes (my ISP's webmail has). But Patrick's right : try Opera and you'll see it will not be the only feature you'll like :)

Fred

Re: Please Post Your Forums Issues - June/July 2004!

Hmm,

Opera for HP-UX? I wish.

HP-UX 11.11, mozilla 1.4

One click on submit doesn't seem to do anything. It's now consistently taking 2 clicks.

1) Has anyone else noticed this with mozilla?
2) If the problem can be duplicated it would be nice to fix it.

Re: Please Post Your Forums Issues - June/July 2004!

I clicked submit once on the last post and waited two minutes. It finally did its thing. Sounds like a peformance/user impatience issue.

going to try the one click method again.

Re: Please Post Your Forums Issues - June/July 2004!

SEP,

Netscape 7.0 (tried Mozilla - had too many problems with ITRC, gave up, went back to Netscape), HP-UX 11.11. I somewhat regularly have to wait one to two minutes for the submit reply box to come up. I've never had to, or even tried, clicking twice.

SEP,

That submit, of course, took 6.759 seconds (Netscape times it - kinda nice).

Re: Please Post Your Forums Issues - June/July 2004!

I need the advice of a moderator, so I figured this would be a good place to post a question. I'm new to the forums (1 week), so I apologize if this topic has been covered before.

In a recent thread a customer asked about obtaining an unsupported HP utility that doesn't ship with our systems. I was reluctant to post the tool to the ITRC as all the internal documentation stated the need to get this tool from an HP Support person (although this could just be the author's way of saying you need to be inside HP's firewalls to access the tool). I ended up emailing the tool to the customer directly rather than posting it publicly. I figured that just saved him the hassle of opening a support call.

In any case, what is the policy of the ITRC forums regarding posting of documented, yet unsupported, tools? Was I being overly cautious by not posting the tool?

Thanks for any advice,

Dave

Is a HP-UX question. Even though there is a response, it should be safe to move.
