Re: Please Post Your Forums Issues - June/July 2004!

I might be nitpicking here but the top two most active forums on the forums "start" page appear to have achieved their status with 0 posts. Maybe they are really really big 0's :)

Never preceed any demonstration with anything more predictive than "watch this"

Yes, I cut and pasted from a translation site... http://ets.freetranslation.com/

It butchered the paste on this post where I posted in German...

Re: Please Post Your Forums Issues - June/July 2004!

Dan -
Using the search today resulting in many duplicate entries for tha same thread title.
Search criteria was all words no + signs used, forums only checked.
Hadn't noticed this in the past or am I just comitting a "duh".
Each of the duplicate posts were identical for answers, etc.

Best regards,

dl

Something strange with this thread:

http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=614238

You can read the question and subject, I've posted a reply but I cannot read it. And there are 2 invisible replies in total.

Re: Please Post Your Forums Issues - June/July 2004!

Dan,
Refer to my forum profile below. I am wondering why i am not able to see my question in descending (latest first, which normally happens) order. I am only able to see it after i click on "more". Actually my last question should be listed first so that it is easy to keep track of it.

Thanks,
Bharat

Re: Please Post Your Forums Issues - June/July 2004!

In advanced search (aka Search >> more_options),

The Forum selector resets to 'top of list'ig deal if you happend
when not found (and after 'back').
Your search for "xxxx" produced no results!

This is not big deal if you happen to be looking for HPUX, but if you are into 'Storage' then it is a long hunt down.
Any easy way to make the recently searched forum 'sticky'

[The workaround is of course to type the first character of the forum 'leader' you are interested in]

Come to think of it... should the 'more options' label not be relabeled to 'advanced search'?

finally... an other vote for showing the author name when staring a reply.

Re: Please Post Your Forums Issues - June/July 2004!

Hi

I'm having problems with the search engine. For every search over the last few days I get each thread duplictated.

I guess this isn't just me as Dave seems to have had the same problem earlier in the month.

Hi Dan,

I am thinking about an enhancement for ITRC forum: a new hat over 50.000 points (see Clay).
Have you already faced this request?
I know that other ITRC people agree with me.

Re: Please Post Your Forums Issues - June/July 2004!

Time settings.

One of two things.

1) The ability to set your time-zone and have all date/time's shown with your TZ settings in effect.

2) The current date/time of the HP server shown somewhere so we can get an idea of how old posts are.

Hi Danno,

This one should be pulled. No idea what this user is trying to say...but it's childish to say the least.

Re: Please Post Your Forums Issues - June/July 2004!

Daniel,

Looking at a recent HP-World schedule I fail to see an officially sanctioned itrc forums event on the schedule.

Surely this is an oversight.

I have verbal approval since I can get to the place on my bike and there's no milage rate for bikes yet.

Re: Please Post Your Forums Issues - June/July 2004!

I think this should be removed. This is not a recruiting board:

I agree with Patrick, this is not a human resources centre for job recruitment.

Re: Please Post Your Forums Issues - June/July 2004!

I agree the sysadmin job post is inappropriate based on my understanding of rules and terms of service.

I am happy to know people are trying to hire people like us.

I do believe that a help wanted/position desired thread would be appropriate for some part of the forums.

We are showcasing the skills of some of the best sysadmins in the world here. Every day we're solving problems.

On one occaision someone did take the time to find me and hire me for a weekend job to help out his new sysadmin.

So the question to the HP owners of this forum is, why not provide a thread allowing people to find good admins or ask for help?

I vote for thread deletion but advocate that there is a place for a carefully managed thread/marketplace to get skills and people where they need to be. It probably enhances the value HP provides to its customers. The downside for HP is it might cut into their consulting revenue. Not everybody can afford $250/hour and up.

Something to think about.

zzzzzt.

The sound of a thread biting the dust.
