Re: Please Post Your Forums Issues - May 2004!

It would be nice if there was a download section in the forrum. Some of the open source packagages gett pretty far out of date on the external hp sites for depots.
Is anyone else interested in this?

Re: Please Post Your Forums Issues - May 2004!

Antoniov, nice suggestion. I'll get it on the list to the lab.

Jeff, right now there are 4 filters to sort threads at the category level. They are found in the pulldown menu called "view". Other than those, there are not filters for other sorting.

Michael, working on getting the questions list sorted properly (Oracle database). Also, the lab is working on the recalc.

Stuart, noticed that...and have reported it.

Steven, yes that was me....all 1,000 replies!

Hari, the only way I know shortening a link so it dosn't break is to go to http://www.tinyurl.com and convert it to something small.

Jeff, would be nice...

Thanks,
Dan

Re: Please Post Your Forums Issues - May 2004!

Since you are using Oracle, I was wondering if something could be done.

Over the past two years, on a limited basis, I have made the most unfortunete mistake of posting both my work and personal email adress in a number of forum questions.

This was really, really, really stupid, because I've got log evidence that people are mining the forums.itrc.hp.com site for email addresses.

If I submitted a list of the posts(its not terribly extensive) and ask that they be converted to null or the url of a form I post up that hides my email address would it be possible to get my email address purged from the database?

I'll do the homework and provide the urls.

I've noticed since I scoured my own websites and removed my own email address(it was on an invoice form I use to print invoices at my private clients site) that the small has abated.

Obviously changing my email address would be easier, but its on my business cards and not even an option with regards to my juf address.

Please let me know if its possible and I'll submit an email listing the thread posts.

Thanks either way and I'll be using a SECURE web mailform in the future when allowing my valued colleagues to email me in future responses.

Thanks for all the hard work Dan. I don't know what I'd do without itrc. It fills my idle time, and I must use it a few times a week to get my hands on quickie procedures for tasks I don't do so often. Its amusing when a search brings up my own post. Its less than amusing when I find mistakes in my posted procedures. I'll be working on the accuracy thing.

Re: Please Post Your Forums Issues - May 2004!

Jeff, I already maintain such a site, not publicly writable of course.

I've noticed however that the HP Porting center is very cooperative in updating/upgrading packages on request (at least if I do so), which makes the /need/ for my site less than before.

I post Open Source projects to HP-UX (mostly Perl and GNU gcc), and make them available for HP-UX 10.20, 11.00/32, 11.00/64, 11.11/32, and 11.11/64 (HP-UX 10.20 is about to be dead at our site soon, but the software will not be removed from the site)

Which package, not available from the porting center, would you be interested in?

My HP ITRC site pages can be found at (please use LA as primary choice):

USA Los Angeles http://mirrors.develooper.com/hpux/
SGP Singapore https://www.beepz.com/personal/merijn/
USA Chicago http://ww.hpux.ws/merijn/
NL Hoofddorp http://www.cmve.net/~merijn/

Re: Please Post Your Forums Issues - May 2004!

I did a search, within IT Resource Center (forums), with the search criteria set to: [All Words] on the following:

powerchute business edition hp-ux

I recieved three results. None of the 3 threads had the word powerchute in them.

Re: Please Post Your Forums Issues - May 2004!

Ciao,
a very important information, the "answer solving the problem" flag, is actually posted by the HP moderator.
I whould like a different solution. Who post the question should declare that a solving answer occurred.

Do you agree?

Re: Please Post Your Forums Issues - May 2004!

Ciao,Francesco,

Actually, that is the way it works now. Only the person who opens the question can assign points (though obviously the moderator could, they don't).

Re: Please Post Your Forums Issues - May 2004!

The "Magic Bunny" solution flag to a question is actually set when the question poster assigns points to replies, and assigns 8, 9, or 10 points to one or more replies.

The moderators actually have nothing to do with the "Magic Bunny" solution icon appearing.

Re: Please Post Your Forums Issues - May 2004!

When we choose to view the questions with no replies is it possible to filter out those questions that have been moved?

It is very hard to find those that have not been replied to and do not have a reply yet.

Re: Please Post Your Forums Issues - May 2004!

Dear Dan or Hp sirs,

I posted a question and thought I was going to get help and I was not welcomed with help or kindness.
But I was welcomed with rudeness and corrected because I checked the wrong country .Excuse me>Roger
Please check this thread.http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=592409
To see how I was treated I hope you do something to this Roger to let him know this is not how you treat others.
Isn't there a code on how you treat others On here???
I thought I read something on that when I joined up.
I don't belive this is how others should treat new members on here.
I don't know what Rogers problem is but I don't want to slam Roger or be ignorant to him but I don't like the way he has treated me and wanted the public to know.

Re: Please Post Your Forums Issues - May 2004!

Is there a way to contact someone in this forum directly? I was providing assistance to a forumers question that a solution had already been given and it fixed his problem. The person who gave the solution (Jean-Louis Phelix) was not given his fair share of points and the Question Author admitted being a little stingy, despite his reasons. You can check out the discussion at: http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=148780

I think people who take time to answer someones problem should be given their due points and appreciation. Is there a way that a fellow forumer can contact another forumer? The forum profile does not list an e-mail address. Any chance of either displaying the e-mail address or having a link to select, which doesn't show the e-address, but can deliver a message to the forumer?

This can be beneficial in a lot of ways, but this is just one instance.

Thanks!

Re: Please Post Your Forums Issues - May 2004!

Dear HP sirs.
Please understand that I am a repair person and It sound like some members on here don't like me but I got my question answered by a very nice member Named Robert .
He was kind and helpful and my prayers are of to this person who showed me kindness and helpfulness .
You can edit my post about Roger since nobody cares that he was being negitive towards me but that is ok I don't care because people like Robert treated a new member with the respect like they should .
It seems that you old members like Roger think that they are the kings and maybe they are but what about those of us that are new and get treated with disrespect I know I am new and have not earned much but is it to much to ask that you treat a new member with kindness. Not rudeness?
Anywho Please let Robert know how much his great help is appricated and disregard the post about Roger.
I let my temper get to me.
Just like Roger has a temper .
Thanks .
Rodney.
