Please Post Your Forums Successes - June 2004!

Hi Everyone,

Please submit your highlights and successes you have had while participating in the ITRC Forums community. Your feedback helps convey the positive influences the forums have had on your IT life. For example, have you:

1. Posted a question and received a key answer that solved your problem?
2. Have you viewed a message thread that had a solution to a problem you were trying to solve?
3. Found the Forums to be of particular help in sharing information, exchanging best practices, or saving you time?

I'd really like to hear from everyone -- your circumstances, the issues, the outcome, who was of help, time saved, etc.! If you have examples to share, please provide the URL of the thread if possible.

Thanks in advance for your input!

Best Regards,

Re: Please Post Your Forums Successes - June 2004!

Hello Dan,
ITRC is clearly, for me, one of the best support tool :
1) numbers and experience of administors reading threads is very important,
2) anyone can give his experience,
3) what a big Knowledge database ! You are searching for something ? A lot of chance that someone had the same problem, some months ago !
4) reading response every day is very useful to learn about new release of product or new products !! I just recently find System Healthcheck that will certainely be useful for us : http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=556471
5) it is free ...

So i want to thank all guys here for their contribution !

Olivier.

Hi Dan,
Major success came to me from this forum with Wizard awarded by ITRC and i am feeling proud of the same to be in fourm and enjoying the company of really great people around.
More importantly i would like to point out the way forum is maitained is really remarkable and admirable one. The statistics maintained by Merijn and this thread where i am writing my view and many more give it a highly professional touch.
Kind of dedication around make you even more affectionate towards forum.

Re: Please Post Your Forums Successes - June 2004!

Hi Dan,
ITRC is the most active forum I've ever seen in the unix world. I was introduced to the forum by a contractor who came to help us bring an HP system to our datacenter.

I am from Tru64/Solaris/AIX background and was coming new to the HP-UX world a few months ago and wanted to learn it fast. ITRC is helping me to get there faster than I thought earning few points along the way. Now I am kinda addicted to the forum ( confession: )).

I find the posts very interesting and it's really amazing to see how each problem is resolved quickly as well as the response bringing a new perspective to the analysis.

Another interesting observation is the geographical nature of the support world. I see the posts from Australia and Newzealand in the early morning being responded by Indian gurus and then from Europe and finally the US guys. It's true 24x7 I would say.

Thanks again for a wonderful forum..

Re: Please Post Your Forums Successes - June 2004!

Hi Dan,

Over the last few weeks I've grown sick of seeing my name in the "almost graduate" statistics, so it's a relief that I've finally got that hat!

For some time, the only questions I've known the answers to were posted by people in USA. Because of the time difference, they were posting the questions after I'd gone home and awarding bunnies before I saw the questions!

But the main success isn't that I got the hat after six months - some people do much better than that. But the congratulations thread: http://forums1/itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?admit=716493758+1086262648472+28353475&threadId=606217 (how do you come up with page names like that?).

I wasn't expecting a congratulations thread - I was happy to wait till I got the wizard's hat for that, so it was a pleasant surprise. Seeing some of the established names and headgear of those who congratulated me was very nice indeed - I'm not as prolific or as knowledgeable as some of you out there, but I've obviously made a good impression (and strangely enough not made any enemies!).

Thanks again to everyone who contributed to my congratulations thread. I look forward to doing the same for each and every one of you.

Strangely enough, when I tried the link most of the numbers had disappeared. I'll try again:

Re: Please Post Your Forums Successes - June 2004!

Hi Dan,

last month, i.e. May 2004 was a very good month for me personally, achieving Wizard status and the fastest "burner" in the ITRC forum.

what more can i say about ITRC but good things. the knowledge i gain from this forum is enormous as during the 3 years, i obtained my HP Certified IT Professional certification partly due to time spend on the forum and the interaction with the forum mates also enhances my trouble shooting skill. i had and will continue to recommend this forum to all my colleagues.

regards.

Re: Please Post Your Forums Successes - June 2004!

Can I just say that the answer in this thread just saved my life

http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=290481

Today, we have copied all the data from two machines from an XP to an EVA, done several major software releases to our global offices, added two new tape drives and reconfigured two clusters.

If we couldn't backup our data we would have been toast.

Thanks guys. What an amazing place!

Re: Please Post Your Forums Successes - June 2004!

Hi Dan,

I had a Pavilion XT983 that had given me major problems from the beginning then completely died Dec 2003. April I stumbled across this forum and the help I recieved on getting my XT983 repaired is priceless. This forum and the wonderful people helping out here has made a major impact on my life. I don't know what I would have done with out it. This forum has saved me a lot of money, time, and aggravation. The response time was very quick and very helpful. I have also learned a few things. My problem has been resolved. I would also like to say a very special thank you to Gary Cantwell, a HP Moderator, for going the extra mile.

Re: Please Post Your Forums Successes - June 2004!

I personally find time spent answering and reading questions very educational. I've not asked many questions but have always received useful answers. Several hp people have commented that itrc is a good place to interact with customers with out getting the junk and bad attitude that ruins newsgroups such as comp.os.vms

I recommend itrc to my colleages for getting useful answers and for gaining knowledge.

Re: Please Post Your Forums Successes - June 2004!

Hi Dan,

I'm ITRC member since July, 1998, but I began to use actively the forum last half of an year. I found here a lot of useful information about the issues I work with. I find solutions for my problems here instead of opening cases for HP support, which saves my time.
I'd like to emphasize that discussions on the forum usually have very high level and improve my knowledge.
Some interesting threads, IMHO:
http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=514193
http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=61811 I looked for this trick some months.
http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=595969 This already helps me twice.
http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=534434

etc.

Thanks a lot

Re: Please Post Your Forums Successes - June 2004!

Dan,
There have been many times I have used the site and all my questions have always been answered. Not to mention I almost always find a "FIX" or a quick answer just by searching. This is by far the best tool that HP (or any company) has come up with.

Thanks so much....
