Please Post Your Forums Successes - March 2005

Hi Everyone,

Please submit your highlights and successes you have had while participating in the ITRC Forums community. Your feedback helps convey the positive influences the forums have had on your IT life. For example, have you:

1. Posted a question and received a key answer that solved your problem?
2. Have you viewed a message thread that had a solution to a problem you were trying to solve?
3. Found the Forums to be of particular help in sharing information, exchanging best practices, or saving you time?

I'd really like to hear from everyone -- your circumstances, the issues, the outcome, who was of help, time saved, etc.! If you have examples to share, please provide the URL of the thread if possible.

You can also post your forums **issues** for March at:

Thanks in advance for your input!

Best Regards,
Cheryl and Dan

Re: Please Post Your Forums Successes - March 2005

I guess this counts as a success, though not in the usual sense. Just took a trip to someone else's site.

I've recently realized that I'm going to have to brush up my skills with a competing UNIX. I used to be a complete devotee of this company's product until I got a job as an HP-UX admin. I grumbled at first, but within 6 months there was no way I wanted to go back! HP-UX was king.

Well, that was almost 10 years ago and times change. I just went to the competitor's OS forum to start reading, figuring it would be as useful as HP's forums and that I could brush up my skills by answering questions.

Boy, was I in for a surprise! Their forums (assuming I've seen the real thing, and I think I have) are NOTHING like HP forums! HP is so much better, it's off the map (much like the OS difference)! HP's forums have been *engineered* and thought through -- and it shows. I know things aren't perfect, but I think we all need to give HP a round of applause...
