Re: Please Report Forums Issues (9/4/2001)

Hi Carlos,

Not sure why the text of your question was deleted. If you can provide it to me here, I will cut and paste it into the thread you started. Sorry about what happened!

Re: Please Report Forums Issues (9/4/2001)

Hi Dan:
I opened a new tread as 'Missing lvol (2)', so you dont need cut/paste, thanks.

I just was reporting an error on forums.

But not only text is missing, the thread is missing on hp-ux board too.

These days, forums seem to run slower. I am trying to locate 'Missing lvol (2) thread' , but i cant access hp-ux forum. In facts this is the third time i reply.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues (9/4/2001)

Hello Dan,

this is just another thread about having
forumers (do we call us that way?) not being
able (or not wanting) to speak/write in english
and this far I have seen chinese (Ni men Hao)
and spanish, IIRC...

See:
http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,1150,0x4b95abe92dabd5118ff10090279cd0f9,00.html

Is there any interest about having, say, a
nationality flag in the forum profiles?

Or, how about (yet another) small graphical
hint on the question pages, when the question
is NOT in english (well, german would be fine
for me, but my chinese is terrible ;-), so I
would not have to even read that thread?
Of course, that would need another "button" on
the "posting page"...

Wodisch

Re: Please Report Forums Issues (9/4/2001)

Hello again, Dan!

A couple of minutes ago I tried to get to
"My Profile" to to check before asking you
for the next "YAER" - and I was kicked out
and had to re-login. Is this a feature or
was it bug? I have been "replying" to questions
immediately before, and my login was valid,
then...

And now for the YAER (Yet Another Enhancement
Request):
Can we have a "bookmark" page on the private
part of the profiles, please?
Or even a public one, like "my recommendations"
or so? Please?

Thanks and bye for today,
Wodisch

Hi Dan:

Looks like the SEARCH engine has gone belly-up again.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues (9/4/2001)

Hi (again) Dan:

In addition to the dead Forum search engine, response time is very, very poor, and I have received 2-for-2 instances of "Page not Found" when replying to posts here in the HP-UX family. The reply "takes", you just get the "not found" message as an acknowledgement!

Regards!

Re: Please Report Forums Issues (9/4/2001)

Wodisch, thanks for the ideas -- from what I know they are "first of their kind". By the way, getting kicked out of your profile to login again is not a feature! Not sure why that happened, perhaps a network issue?

Jim, thanks for the information on the search engine, etc. -- I'll look into what is going on.

I am having some difficulty with the search engine. I can't get any response back other than "no matching... found"

Re: Please Report Forums Issues (9/4/2001)

oh... what a nice feature... recommended links...

Dan... you should have given Wodisch more points!

I would definitly want to visit links recommended by the royalty and wizards... I'm always on the lookout for other great websites.

Please try to get this feature implemented. It shouldn't be that hard. Just an extra table with userid, link title, url...

just my opinion...thanks for listening.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues (9/4/2001)

Hi Edward,

Wodisch is the non-stop idea man! You are probably right in that he deserved more points for his input...his two replies in a row total 8, so I'm not feeling too bad! ;)

Thanks again Wodisch (and everyone else) for your feedback.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues (9/4/2001)

Hello Dan and all you others,

no new ideas today (well, for now ;-) but
a complaint about the "search" again:

Yesterday the only available choice was "25",
today it is the classical list of up to "100"
like before - but it does still only show up
to "50" hits (like before)...

Oh, and I do have problems in getting access
to an attachment of Jasper on this thread:
http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,1150,0x2cea660142b2d5118ff10090279cd0f9,00.html

Could someone correct this, please, as I am
currently delivering a VPW training and the
attendees would be very happy to get this one!

BTW: I told you (some time long ago) to say
"stop" if I am sending in too many "YAERs",
but nobody did - so I will continue (this is
NOT meant as threat ;-)

Kind regards to all of you,
Wodisch

Re: Please Report Forums Issues (9/4/2001)

Hi Dan,

I'm not sure if this one is a great addition, but long topics like this one could be cut off after let say 10 answers/additions. The next 10 answers on second page, etc.

This will increase performance, but on the other hand, a normal ITRC-topic won't get soooo long....

I would like to have more customization with the filters. If I choose to display top read messages, I'll see mostly messages from ages ago. I would like to have the ability to choose for top read messages from last week or last 2 weeks or last month.

What about the filter "messages I have been notified on"? How is this one sorted? I can't figure it out...

What about HP NetAction? I don't know whether or not topics are opened yet about this software range, but I guess this section will be more needed in near future...

I just discovered the All members list, I was hoping for a list sorted by the points earned, but bad luck. I would love such a chart to see which place I'm on...I want to climb up the charts...

Fortunately there is only one Jasper Verweij

Re: Please Report Forums Issues (9/4/2001)

I follow the print instructions for responses and I have the following problem. I set it to landscape and do a print preview and it shows me that there is 4 pages. But when I send it to our HP laser5, it prints out about 30+ pages with a lot of pages with a grey banner down the side. I have been using the forum for a number of years and yet to get a good print out and have wasted a lot of paper.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues (9/4/2001)

Dan, on the off chance this hasn't been reported..........

The Filter Catagory on the Search function is dead. I put in the keyword COURRY and the category MPE Software as well as HP Servers and several other categories and came up with zero items found on all of them.

While I am not James Ferguson, neither am I Joe Luser, *something* should have come back.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues (9/4/2001)

Dan,

This is *really* picky and selfish, but when I got to exactly 250 points, I had to get another point to get my 1st hat. I'm now at exactly 1000 points, and I'm still a graduate. How about changing > to >= ?

Re: Please Report Forums Issues (9/4/2001)

Hello Dan,

me again (as long as thread lasts), even when you tried
hiding from me :-) And you/your team has changed a lot
of links it seems to me:
- this page
- my european profile
- my american profile
- even your profile
- the links shown in the "search" results page...

Of course I do not doubt your wisdom on expanding to
5 digits from the former 4, but why breaking all those
links? Makes live pretty difficult for us un-crowned
humans :-(

BTW, the "search" does still only deliver up to 50
answers - trust me on that, I tried searching for "the"...
Oh, and it DID show lots of answers with the new
5-digit ids, but then - some still with the old 4-digit-ids.

AND it is pretty slow and the login refused responding
for some time, but after some errors I was logged in.
Without having completed the login successfully!?!?

Or should I not try surfing the forums on saturday
nights? That might explain a lot :-))

Good night,
Wodisch

Re: Please Report Forums Issues (9/4/2001)

if you do a search and click on MANY results you get 404 page not found error

see:
http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,1150,0x02a6e7613948d5118fef0090279cd0f9,00.html

if you replace the old 4 digit forum code with the new one, it works:
http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,11866,0x02a6e7613948d5118fef0090279cd0f9,00.html

I had to get the article i wanted to see was in forums > hp-ux > general which i then found out the new code was 11866 instead of 1150.

I'm assuming y'all in the process of upgrading the db and all the links will be fixed... right?

Re: Please Report Forums Issues (9/4/2001)

I'm going to ask the same question Edward asked regarding the "new" updated links.

Does someone intend to fix the links embedded in the posts of this forum? In the meantime, how about posting an VERY VISABLE advisory of how to resurrect the dead; viz. as Edward notes, change the to '/1,1150' to '/1,11866'.

Why would anyone allow such a change to be made without posting an advisory about the change; preferably before the change, but certainly afterwards? It's so simple to communicate, and so unprofessional not to do so. I had come to expect more from HP.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues (9/4/2001)

I'm having the same problem Richard noted. I did a search on my name to find recent threads I have posted to. It produced a list, but every one I try to go into gives me the page not found error.
