Please Report Forums Issues - August 2003!

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - August 2003!

I'm new to the forums here, but regarding a couple of ideas listed above:

a) regarding preassigning 0 points -- I think this is a bad idea that will lead to a lot fewer points getting assigned and hence potentially a lower participation rate.

b) regarding a new forum for congrats, humor that is points free -- that makes LOTS of sense since we're not contributing to the technical knowledge with those questions.

Just my $.02.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - August 2003!

Once again, the default category being something besides ???general??? has caused yet another message to get posted under the wrong category.

This time it was one of my own questions and I should have known better, but I guess I am still human (no matter how hard I try to change or deny that!).

Would someone be nice enough to move this from the current category to the Microsoft ???general??? category for me?

http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0x3a3a632c26e99f48bb2e71c7603a6d24,00.html

I would truly appreciate it.

PS Any chance this issue is getting any attention from the web group in HP? It would be wonderful if the default category were to be ???general??? on all of the forum lists unless otherwise chosen .

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - August 2003!

Hey Pete,

Is my search engine complaint on your list?

I tried to post this LAST monday but I was on the edge of Sprint's service which is nonexistant in South Dakota.

This site works GREAT in text mode, on a cell modem at 14.4 K. I was able to do research and post some answers even as my wife had us up near 80 mph(do all people that learn to drive in California drive so fast?).

Last night, I managed to use the system even though the hotel only managed to get me a 7.2K connection.

I think its great that the site was designed so it doesn't discriminate against people with slow access. In places like Sundance WY.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - August 2003!

Hi Dan,

old problem again:
Assigned points in http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0x434069932de37d478840c48550715532,00.html
and had to do it twice. Did not had that for long.

Could this be related to the fact, that I re-jumped into the message from the acknowledgement screen ? I normally do jump back to hp-ux-forum and re-enter the thread from there which usually works nice, but this time I jumped directly to the message again because I'd like to respond myself. Maybe this "double"-assignment trouble is related to the navigation AFTER the submit ?

Hope we get closer to this problem
Volker

Hi Dan,

Since yesterday I've been having a problem with the search. I get a "could not login" window.

I'm attaching the screenshot of the webpage for your convenience.

... and as was suggested earlier, it might be a good idea to have a link to this thread as well on the forums homepage.

Thanks and Regards,

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - August 2003!

On search

1. The quick search box on top *ALWAYS* takes me to the wrong site. From there I have to click on European site. Why? Why? Why? This is soooooo anoying (and unfair!). Make Europe the default for all and check how many US users will complain.
2. I cannot search on ENV{COLUMNS}

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - August 2003!

Dan,

Is there any chance that the javascript submit will go away?

Honestly, is it really worth the hassles?

Today I submitted a response and it literally took 30 seconds before the screen changed to indicate that my submission was accepted.

Hi Dan and others,

Dennis Bayta has done a great job by making 12 same topics in http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/CategoryHome/0,,160,00.html

Could you please remove the duplicates?

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - August 2003!

This thread is a post child for the old US/Europe doc-id problem.

http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0x788f2d8b5274534293a20d64f37fa133,00.html

A US user tries to post a doc to help a fellow English speaker in Australia and what happens?

The Aussie can't read the doc.

There has to be a way to help us itrc helpers resolve this. I don't want to get an Asian ID and a Euro Id, because someday I'll post get points and drive myself mad about being so stupid.

Is there a system that will work?

Can I pull a document id and tell them to run a search? What will work? I think if the document identification number is the same, ITRC should be smart enough to transfer the user to the document.

If this is a document requiring a support ID, IU think it still should be addressed because good support eventually leads to HP getting support contract revenue.

I wonder how much money HP has garnered off the recommendations of myself and others to get a support contract. Being able to see a doc that this buys will help the user and help HP move some contacts. Maybe. Enough.

Good night.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - August 2003!

Curt,

The Forums have problems with long links.

I suggest convert a long link into a much shorter pointer, using http://makeashorterlink.com .

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - August 2003!

Hi,

A small remark is that whenever you want to look back in your previous questions or answers, you always first need to do a post. I cannot get into this profile from the left side of the page. The only way to get there is click on my name after a post.

Might be something nice to add ?

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - August 2003!

Hi Curt, URLs with an = sign at the end tend to cause a bit of havoc -- and part surfer URLs end in the = sign.

David, you can find your forums public profile by going to 'my profile' in left side navigation, clicking on update forums profile, and then 'view public profile'. Another option is to bookmark the profile page as it doesn't change.

Thanks,
Dan

Pete, can you add these gripes to the issues list?

1. The quick search box on top *ALWAYS* takes me to the wrong (US) site. From there I have to click on European site.
2. I cannot search on ENV{COLUMNS}

Merijn,

Number 1 will be added. Number 2 may be if you'll explain it so I can understand it (you know how dense I can be).

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - August 2003!

Hi Pete,
can you add the followin items to the wish-list ?

- have the notify/reply/new button on the left, to avoid the long link problem that hides them

- have the reply/new buttons very distant between them, because there were many new post made by error, because they are near

Waiting for your salad,

Hi,

Have you anybody think about "refreshing" main forum page ? It bothers me to click on refresh button and reload page. You know every extra click is useless ;))

Dan:
I think that there are too many sections in the forums
I asked a question on storage & put it in the storage section [for once]

The result?
Zilch until Randall stuck his head 'round the door a few hours later [see link below]

Would be very nice if...
each member could choose which sections to view on their own personal page
