Re: Please Report Forums Issues - July 2003

We have just been through our nightly 12:30-1:00 a.m. Central problem.

Seems like a backup or something else halts posting for between 15 and 30 minutes.

Oh!

I don't mean to make this trouble, I clicked reply and it remained in the same page, and I checked that my post was not there, so I click it even harder ...

Sorry for the mess generated.

I retuen the original page and press F5 to refresh, I can't see anything changed, so I post again and again, but last time I refresh I found many replies...

Hi Dan,

Why we are not receiving one email for each reply that we receive in a question ???
We are receiving only from time to time !

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - July 2003

A general point, not specific to July.
Could you provide guidelines asking posters to give 24 hours before they consider a thread "closed".

The reason is that most threads originate in the US but here in the UK we don't see them until the next day, by which time there may have been many contributions.

Even though we feel we have something valid to add to the thread, it seems to be often ignored, and points rarely assigned.

Here's a couple of threads with contributions from me this week.

The first is more anecdotal than technical, but in the second I think my suggestion definitely has the edge (mind you, *nobody* go feedback in that one...)

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - July 2003

Hi Dan-

I noticed that a couple of posts that I made in the past week had disappeared.. One being just a recommendation to read another post that I thought was enjoyable as well as insightful...

Had me with the feeling I'm being 'ex-communicated' or something..

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - July 2003

Dan,

The search engine clearly has some corrupt indexes.

Here's a dangling, open ended pointer from the ITRC search engine trying to link to a thread posted by an author on 8/5/2001. The link completes without reference to the author's posting.

What happened to the author's posting dated 8/5/01?

Search Criteria = All Words
Search For = DLT tape size

Yields this link:

http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0x7ff8d211e18ad5118ff10090279cd0f9,00.html

Which points to the current Onmiback forum, dated 7/5/03

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - July 2003

Oops, typo.

The date of the thread is 8/15/01.

And when you go to the author's profile it still appears under his/her questions.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - July 2003

Does anyone have any idea why between 12:30 and 1:00 a.m. Central(I know, I should be sleeping) itrc slows down to a crawl and submitting a post takes up to 20 minutes?

It seems to happen quite regularly. I know to wait, but whateve thread is hot at that time usually gets dozens of duplicate posts.

Backups?

Search engines using up all the band width?

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - July 2003

Hi Danno,

Have you folks been having DNS trouble today?
I've gotten tons of

11001 Host not Found

errors all day.
At first I thought it was our DNS servers as I was getting them on a lot of external sites, but since about 14:00 CST they've been exclusive to your site.

Curious,
Jeff

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - July 2003

Just a suggestion: under HPUX add an ERP section.

Since many of us use (or suffer from ) them, it cuold be nice to have a section to mispoke about SAP, JDEdwards, Oracle Financial Application, Baan and the long listing of all of them.

Another thought, following the issue about points.
I know that is not compulsory, but would it be possible to add only a reminder, say to that persons that have less than 10% of they point assigned ? I will continue none the less to post answer, but looks like someothers are discouraged...

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - July 2003

Dan,

I have had a lot of trouble getting my points assignment to "stick". I have found myself having to go back and re-assign points to a response several times, which can get tedious when you are the owner of a Congratulations thread.

Is this a known problem? Share and Enjoy! Ian

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - July 2003

Hi Dan,
another suggestion:

the button "new message" is too near to the reply, so there are many new message created, when a person just wants to post a reply.
So, in fact, there are many message created and we don't understand the full story.

Could you please distance or move them away ?

Thanks,
Massimo

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - July 2003

Ian,

"Points not sticking" is indeed a known problem. I recently reported it myself. Here is a link to that thread, with HP Kathy's response:

http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0xb4d4506d69a7d711abdc0090277a778c,00.html

I have heard that HP is having trouble solving this problem. We all know that intermittent problems are the worst.
