Re: Please Report Forums Issues - March 2002

There were a lot of problems to reach the forums today and yesterday. Either I was unable to connect to the web server (timeout) or when I was connected finally, I've received an SSI error. I've experineced it both from work and from home (2 different providers). Hoe you find the root cause.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - March 2002

Hi Everyone,

Appreciate your thoughts on the situation. It was reported to me that there was disk problem with the database that caused the downtime. Things have been restored, as you can see. FYI, the forums servers and application haven't experienced any issues per se for a few months. Apologize for the inconvenience -- things are looking up once again.

Hi,

how about a link on the "my profile" page that would generate a list of answers that I haven't yet assigned points to? That would enable me to quickly assign points to those answers that I forgot to immediatly assign points to.

Cheers,

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - March 2002

Hi All,

Thanks for your messages. As mentioned, the database disk issue was resolved and we are looking good again. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Knut - we have that feature slated and are working on it. In the meantime, Steven Sim Kok Leong has created something to help you out. See:
http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0x1e6f84534efbd5118ff40090279cd0f9,00.html

Procura - sorry about late response to your other inquiry. I checked with our developers, and currently we test for latest versions of IE and Netscape. I will put in a request that they test for Opera and Mozilla.

Thanks,
Dan

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - March 2002

I was trying to post tonight to Sean Gill's "Can't allocate memory" post. (Don't ask why I am up so late posting to the forum. Tottally different story...) When I hit the submit button, and I got dumped back into the discussion again. (After some time.) I refreshed, and my post was not there, so I submitted it again. (I tend to edit first so I can spell check the longer posts.) The second resubmit took a long time also, and I eventually got a "http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/PostAnswerTrxn/1,,0xccd094f22a31d6118fff0090279cd0f9,00.html" Error 404... I went back to the discussion, and did a refresh, but my post did not make it, so I tried again. The third time, My post went through. I went back to the discussion, and all three posts were there...

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - March 2002

Question: What is the policy on transportability of Userids across ITRC Sites?

I have this BR signon (Europe) which I use all the time, especially on Asia/Pacific forums. Periodically I will get bounced when attempting to log in or post a reply, and have to resort to my CA (Asia/Pacific) Userid, with no Support Handles linked, etc.

Thanks in advance, Ian

I wonder if it's time to replace the servers with a REAL OS (we are still using M$$$ right)?

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - March 2002

Hi Dan,
I'm having an odd problem getting in to the forum.
The first time I attempt to go to the forum. (itrc.hp.com) it starts the redirect and then kicks me to a 404 error screen. I can retype itrc.hp.com and it goes right in. I can refresh the the "support" redirect page, boom, right in and will have no other problems opening the forum page after that, until next day. All other pages I open appear to be fine, so this doesn't appear to be on my end. I briefly touched on this in the Feb issues post but recently made the connection as to when since I was not as active as I have been the past couple of weeks.
Any ideas?
FYI- It's not really causing any bother, just strange. This has been happening for a number of weeks (4 or so).
Thanks,
Kel

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - March 2002

I do not know if this is a Forums issue, but I will report it anyway, because, as far as I know, other posters also have/had this problem:

When posting, all sequences of multiple spaces are translated to single spaces. This even happens for 'quoted' lines, i.e. "> some text".

For an example see my March 7 response in the thread http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0x334a1aca6930d611abd50090277a778c,00.html

I have looked in the options of my browser (Internet Explorer 5.0), but found nothing.

A little test: These are four spaces: " " (end)

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - March 2002

Are there any limitations to the sort of attachment? If not, I want to report the problem that neither binaries, not compressed tar archives can be attached. Well, they can be attached, without error, but they cannot be accessessed afterwards:

In thread http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0x02bc0bce6f33d6118fff0090279cd0f9,00.html I tried to post the binary "ncpio", but when I click the paperclip, I get

(Error HTTP_404)

and two messages further in the same thread I retried with a tgz and there I get

Could Not Open URL
The URL you requested, /cm/components/FileAttachment/0,,0x62bc0bce6f33d6118fff0090279cd0f9,00.tgz , does not exist or is not retrievable at this HP IT Resource Center Web site.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - March 2002

Hi Dan.
It's ,e again, teh pain in the neck.
Dan, some weird problem :
I did login on the European site.
I went to Bill McNamara's 100 memroy usage posting.
Then i tried to follow the link set by Kenny Chau.
Result : I am asked for a login on the US server while being logged in in Europe.
Is there a chance to get this changed ?

I've got the similar expierence as Alexander M. Ermes. Not able to follow the link ("Unable to connect to Content Security Server"), while following the link (100% memusage). I'm also logged in via Europe.

... maybe not a real problem, but a challenge it is..

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - March 2002

Got two to report today.

One from yesterday.

Error processing SSI file '/cm/FamilyHomeContent/1,11868,LoggedIn!116,00.html'

Just now was not able to get to the reply screen. It had been working fine and then it quit for about 5 minutes and now it's back.
