Re: Please Report Forums Issues - May 2002
I have found another undocumented feature, but probably all other wiseguys have found it earlier...
The following gives back all new messages since my last visit at Management software:
http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/FamilyHome/0,,121!2!1,00.html
So the documentation will be:
AFter the first ! you have the following options:
0=none yet
1=all messages
2=new messages since last visit
3=all messages I have been notified on
4=top read messages
5>=none yet

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - May 2002
Searches to docs.hp.com from the ITRC search page are STILL yielding no results.
Any idea when this will be resolved?
Is there any thing/person that we, the members, can do/contact to move this issue to resolution?
Rgds,
Jeff

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - May 2002
"Be Bravo" ITRC member has a post in "system administration" on 05/03/02 but the subject field is blank. Thus, no one can read his post.
Isn't there some form of field-checking to prevent this from happening when submitting a post? :)
For your notice. Regards.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - May 2002
Steven: thanks for your note! Yes, posts are checked upon being submitted -- if no subject is included, the post won't be accpeted. However, the one you noted had a subject, but the text was enclosed in carrots < >. For some reason, that's no good. I went in behind the post and fixed it up...check it out here: http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0x5d5d7bb04b5cd611abdb0090277a778c,00.html
Jeff: thanks for the reminder. After your first inquiry, I had put the word into the team managing the search feature. Upon your note here, I informed them again along with a few others. You can also submit a request at http://us-support.external.hp.com/usage/bin/doc.pl/sid=66e5293905e894f49e/screen=usageFeedback. Don't choose "Forums", instead select "Other" and fill in the request. Again, I've put the word out and will let you know what I hear.
Trond: can't tell you much about Netscape vs IE vs Mozilla other than all of them have their individual html needs....I'll get this reported into the dev. team.
Procura: thanks for helping out...not sure what the problem with the attachments are...have you tried to zip them first?
Take care,
Dan

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - May 2002
Over the last few months I have seen many instances when a question has had dozens of repies even when the first few replies have been given ten points for accuratly answering the question. Now when this happens the author has to trawl through each reply and either assign points or n/a to keep his profile looking like a responsible caring appreciative person. If we had the ability to close a call to further responses we would not have to trawl through all these unnecessary replies.
I can also see that several persons either submit the same answer as someone else on the off chance of getting some points or simply havent bothered to read the previous replies. Either of which in my opion should not warrant any points.
and YES if someone wishes to do a search i am sure I can be found guility of obviously not having read all the replies at some stage.
the forum is great and a close to replies function would save a lot of time which could be applied to unresolved issues.
cheers
John.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - May 2002
I dont think it was me who raised this last month. I have just trawled through last months posting looking for my replies and it gave me another great idea which has most likely been requested already but just in case.
on any posting having the ability to pull simply the answers from any one contributor would allow me to go into the Please Report Forums Issues - March 2002 and quickly identify my replies.
how can we find out what is on the wish list for future releases of the forum.
could we also have the option for auto refresh to save my F5 key from wearing out.
cheers
John.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - May 2002
Everytime I put a string for search chosing only "Community.." & "HPUX" I get 0 results the first time, then keeping the same string & hitting the search button again it returns results am looking for.
I have been experiencing this frequently, at least for 2 months now.

T??

Given the problems many of us have encountered with attachments on the forum, only plain text and shar files can be used safely as it seems.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - May 2002
FYI, I was informed that modifications to the docs.hp site has caused no results to be returned if searching on "manuals" in the ITRC search engine. This will be fixed in the next ITRC release due out soon. In meantime, click on the docs.hp.com link and search there.
John, finding all responses and solutions you've posted will be in the next release...perhaps as it gets closer, I can post what will be included.
T.M.: I'll verify and report to the search team.
procura: prior to the current forums, there was a version based on another architecture. Migrating it allowed threads to be retained, but profile links were not (around March2000). Hence, you will run across these, such as from "Al Langen" -- one with a profile link, one without: http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0x57eff841489fd4118fef0090279cd0f9,00.html

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - May 2002
I am still experiencing problems when posting replies. I get - thank you for your first participation, and the reply isn't posted. With some refreshing & going back through the pages I can usually manage to get the reply posted eventually.
Regards,
Hilary
PS - in fact it is happening now.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - May 2002
Hi,
When I try to list all m users:
http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/MemberList/1,,m!1,00.html
I know that takes time but sometimes I get an error message:
Error processing SSI file '/cm/MemberListContent/1,11917,LoggedIn!m!1,00.html'

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - May 2002
I have been trying to access ???IT Resource Center Forums member list??? but when ever I click on letter M (members starting with letter M) I get following error:
Error processing SSI file '/cm/MemberListContent/1,11917,LoggedIn!m!1,00.html???
I was wondering if every one is getting this error or it is something to do with my PC.

When using the NEW search feature with the combined COMPuke and HP, I searched for this string (with only HP chossen):
"model 30" +fc +array
then clicked on this link:

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - May 2002
The "m" list and the "j" list in the members listing are the 2 largest files. For some reason, this is causing them to time out and return an SSI error. A fix will go out in next release soon, with the two lists subdivided.
Hilary, thanks for the note -- I hadn't heard of this recently. I'll get it reported.
procura and Marc, I'm having no problem with notifications. Does this occur for every thread you've posted? I have seen that on occasions that it takes some time to be notified depending on network traffic.
Harry, good question. Perhaps they've been reassigned, moved into other responsibilities, etc. I know Sanjay had said he went on a long vacation.
Take care,
Dan
