Re: Please Report Forums Issues - May 2003

Hi Dan,
Pls have a look at this post.
http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0xde0b595fae8bd711abdc0090277a778c,00.html

The "LAST" reply from the author appears to be the "THIRD" one due to incorrect time-stamp. I am curious about this.

Dan:

This thread is really corrupt. Somehow my posting got attached to someone else's posting as an attachment.

A browser submit problem that does not involve me(at least on the mouse).

Got some duplicate posts in my neverending windoze saga.

Please get someone to nuke them.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - May 2003

Paul,

It looks like you were pasting a link that did not go well. I have been told that long links with lots of equal signs cause problems. At least others were able to continue the thread after you. When it happens to me, the thread typically abends, with no more posts allowed, until they repair the thread.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - May 2003

Steven,

Can you possibly go back in and assign David Holbrook 5 points? I got a little quick on the trigger finger and deleted the post that you had assigned points to. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - May 2003

Eric,

I've reconsidered.

I'm going to assign him six points.

Hope that's okay.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - May 2003

In other news mozilla 1.3 CAN produce the double post problem.

Just a note for the engineers.

I got a 404, checked the thread on another tab, saw no post, clicked submit again.

Ooops!

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - May 2003

Hi Dan, still have the problem.. also a new one appeared: when I try to assign points, the congrats for assigning points comes up, but on return to the question (and my profile) the points didn't stick.

My workaround for the 1st problem is to keep Ctrl-R down for around 5 minutes. After that my reply takes.
It works for me (tm)

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - May 2003

Dan,

S.K. noticed that something is rotten in Denmark (and Russia, and Bulgaria, etc.). See this thread:

http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0x62478b82cc91d711abdc0090277a778c,00.html

I don't know what can be done about it, but thought it should be brought to your attention.

I agree - something is definitely fishy here.

I suggest you have a talk with this...ahem...gentleman.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - May 2003

Dan, Pete, S.K., Jeff,

Thanks to S.K. and Pete for drawing attention to this miscreant.

So the question remains, why would someone attempt to "earn" points, fraudulently (since points have no cash value)?

IMHO, the short answer is, you guys with Wizard rank and above, tend to get quick and accurate answers to the posts which you author (replies from other Club members). Those of us with lesser rank, or mere wannabes like me, our posts tend to get ignored, by the more experienced members of the Club.

I am not saying that *my* posts have been ignored. They have not. But I have been a lurker for some time.

I might be entirely off base in this observation. In that case, I'm sure someone will let me know. (I *have* been wrong before.)

I also apologize if I have ruffled any feathers.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - May 2003

Hi Jay,

No offense taken - no feathers ruffled, my friend.
I understand your point, but don't totally agree with it.
Remember that we all were, at on time, hatless as well. In fact, I didn't start forumming until Feb '02. I was between projects as a consultant & had loads of time to devote to this place. I viewed it AND used it as a "school" of some sorts. I was trying to stay sharp because I had no HP systems to work with. I'm sure you could find some real stinkers from my past & NO, I'm not embarrassed by them. Because I was corrected & learned from them. But I rarely made the same mistake twice. One that stands out in my memory was a cron question. I thought the time options were ANDed when in fact they are ORed. I actually posted that twice. But I won't make that mistake again.
IMHO this guy is just trying to take the easy path to a hat. And the *silly* part is the task is very simple - one word - TIME. That's ALL it takes. The more you put in the faster you'll reach the hats.

Best Rgds,
Jeff

P.S. Welcome to the best damn forum on the planet. We're glad you came & hope you stick around.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - May 2003

Jeff,

Thanks for those kind words. I know a good forum when I see one, and the HP forum is the best I have seen. My expertice is in MS networking, Novell, and Dell PC operations. We also have *many* HP printers. Not a real good fit in HP-UX land, but I do intend to hang around. Every company has things they do very well, and HP knows forums.

My email server (orion.neiu.edu) is Digital UNIX, does that count?

Jay,

If I may chime in - Unix is Unix. We may be HP-UX-centric but you might be surprised by the number of Solaris/Aix/*nix questions that get answered here. Welcome aboard, mate.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - May 2003

Pete,

I have always been somewhat conflicted re IT systems. I earn my living with my MS/Novell expertise, but I have always thought that *nix is the better code. It is truly embarrassing to be a MS guy, with the security and reliability problems they have, and no real change on the horizon.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - May 2003

Dan,

Its now taking two tries to assign points.

The first time I try it says everything is okay and responds quickly but no points are assigned. Second try seems to work.

Results are the same with IE 5 and Mozilla 1.3 XP and Windows 98.
