Please Report Forums Successes! (January 2002)

Hello Everyone!

Once again, I am very interested in hearing about your recent highlights and successes you've had while using the ITRC Forums. For example, have you:

1. Posted a question and received a key answer that solved your problem.
2. Viewed a message thread that had a solution to a problem you were trying to solve.
3. Found the Forums to be of particular help in sharing information, exchanging best practices, or saving you time.

I'd really like to hear from everyone -- your circumstances, the issues, the outcome, who was of help, time saved, etc.!

If you have examples to share, please provide the URL of the thread if possible. Thanks in advance for your input!

Best Regards,

Re: Please Report Forums Successes! (January 2002)

Woo-Hoo! First one!

Anyway, just like to say that I had a obscure pain in the butt problem that had dogged me for a while (if I suspect right). I could never quite figure out what was going on or causing it, and just kinda muddled on, dealing with it when needed. I finally got it solved with help from King Clay, so I'm much happier. Thanks, Clay!

Re: Please Report Forums Successes! (January 2002)

Hello Everyone,

Forums performance has dramatically improved compared to the past couple of days. We were experiencing degraded performance due to a tremendous load caused by robots crawling the site. This has been resolved!

Also, the forums search engine is finally returning results as expected!! I've worked on searches a number of ways and the results are very good. Our development team is going to work on the engine further to ensure the correction is long term. Give it a try (not everyone at once!) :) http://us-support2.external.hp.com/emse/bin/doc.pl/forward/screen=emseHome/sid=af8458cd02569e4260?

Thanks for your continued participation in the forums, and for your patience during the past couple of days.

Thanks,
Dan

hi,

how about this one? Not an answer to a question, but a tool to find missing point assignments by Steven Sim Kok Leong !!

Hi Thierry,

Thanks for the pointer -- I've noted Steven's contribution. His engine has been handy for cleaning up a few of my messages that needed points assigned to replies! Thanks again for thinking of Steven.

Re: Please Report Forums Successes! (January 2002)

Hi Dan,

One of the principle strengths of the forums is that others are strong in areas where I am weak (and hopefully vice-versa). The following post concerns an issue I had with mail, an area in which I am quite weak:
http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0x4bb8a2db8513d6118ff40090279cd0f9,00.html

Thanks to my forums friends, this issue was solved. It definitely is a resounding success.

Now, not to kick HP software support (because I was being helped with the call I logged and I have had numerous issues solved by the support center), this problem was solved thru the forums before the support center could solve it.

Re: Please Report Forums Successes! (January 2002)

Dan,

My collegues and I use ITRC and it's forums as an essential tool daily.

We commonly tackle problems on a daily basis that call on our collective experience. But many a difficult problem go beyond any problem we have previously experienced.

Thankfully forums provide us the ability to instantly contact a large base of users, administrators and engineers who may have experienced the problem beforehand.

In my opinion the responses I receive are very useful, and in many cases solve the problem allowing me to proceed with other daily tasks and problems.

I've been a member of ITRC for over four years now. To this date I have never found a more useful technical help site.

Re: Please Report Forums Successes! (January 2002)

Hi,
I had a small but a big problem on oracle running on my L-1000 server. Initially the local oracle support couldn't solve my problem. I gave a last try to ITRC which solved my problem.

Re: Please Report Forums Successes! (January 2002)

Hi, I've had several 'magic' answers to questions I've posted here & many helpful pointers/tips. Since starting to use the forum properly a few months ago, I now always come here first & can't remember the last time I put a call in (apart form HW failure). Using the search facility someone else may have already answered a similar question before, if not somebody somewhere will know. You cannot beat that in any response center environment - however good or efficient they are. The shear number of people & combined knowledge on this forum means IMHO the response center can't compete - I am not rubbishing the work they do. Thanks to everybody who's helped me & to the people who keep this thing up & running - it has been a source of much learning!!!
Cheers
Pete.

Re: Please Report Forums Successes! (January 2002)

Dan,

I have recently entered into a job after finishing a post grad degree in comp sci.
I have been spoon fed info to rapidly get up to date using HP UNIX for all machines associated in the 9000 series.

With the help of this forum which is simply superb, I am looking forward to sitting the hp certified exam later next month.

One thing that still amazes me is that you can pose a question and sit there hitting F5 to refresh the forum, and within 5 minutes an answer will appear.

These people are invaluable!!

thanks

John

P.s. I have too many resolved problems to include as threads!
