Please Report Your Forums Successes - August 2003!

Hi Everyone,

Please continue to submit your highlights and successes you have had while using the Forums. Your feedback helps convey the positive influences the forums have had on your IT life. For example, have you:

1. Posted a question and received a key answer that solved your problem?
2. Have you viewed a message thread that had a solution to a problem you were trying to solve?
3. Found the Forums to be of particular help in sharing information, exchanging best practices, or saving you time?

I'd really like to hear from everyone -- your circumstances, the issues, the outcome, who was of help, time saved, etc.! If you have examples to share, please provide the URL of the thread if possible.

Thanks in advance for your input!

Best Regards,

Re: Please Report Your Forums Successes - August 2003!

I am one of the 'silent majority' who regularly review new messages to the forum and sometimes actively search for help with a problem, usually with some degree of success.

One thing which would be useful emphasising (again) is that subject headings should be meaningful. This is more likely to get the questioner an answer - I and I suspect most people do not have the time to follow up links to 'Quick and Easy' or 'pl/sql help' for example, and also more likely to provide a match when searching the forum with a problem.

Re: Please Report Your Forums Successes - August 2003!

In general I have found many useful answers and tips here at the forum, some that even HP support could not answer me on my first or second level call.
My only gripe is the slow and inaccurate response of the forum servers. Many times I press submit and nothing happens, the browser looks static and the egg timer does not appears which made you think may be you have click at the wrong spot, so click again and ended up having multiple copies submitted. Other times, a 404 page not found error returned, so you think your submission failed so you go back and resubmit again, and ended up with multiple copies of postings.

My 2-cents worth :-)

I thought Gripes are for the issues thread. :-)

I have just gotten a rp5450 server into production and it would not have been possible without itrc.

For every question I posted at least four or five were resolved by looking at old questions. 24 months of hard work come to fruition.

Re: Please Report Your Forums Successes - August 2003!

I started a new job about 6 months ago, and being trained as an Electrical Engineer had very little knowledge about HP-UX and other IT type administration. However, I found it to be almost half of my new job.

With the help of the forum, I have been able to increase our productivity and solve a number of problems that had been plaguing our department for a long time, not to mention keep my head above water here.

Thanks to all the knowledgable people who help out here!
