Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues for November 2002

Hi Dan,

A minor annoyance:

If I check the notify option on a message, am I supposed to be notified when **I** respond to said message?

If I am, then that feature is working great - thanks and congratulations! If not (and I think that would be the preferred behaviour), then something's amiss.

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues for November 2002

If I *start* with my own profile (http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/UserProfile/1,,BR41967!1,00.html) and click search, I'm redirected to the US site, refusing me with "could not log in". There I can choose to go to the European site (which should have been the default anyway[0]) and everything works fine.

And how, pray tell, did the over-zealous thread movers miss this one?

http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0x4577402f24d5d61190050090279cd0f9,00.html

It was posted to the databases area on October 22nd. Now that someone has actually replied to it, it will probably get moved, but it got away with it for a while.

Yep, there it goes - whisked away to the OV forum, where it belonged. October 22nd must have been a bad day for the movers.

Your techs are making progress on reducing the time it takes to load the new Networking forum but they still haven't fixed it. It's gone from consistently over 20 seconds last week down to 12-13 today but the other forums all load in less than 5.

Dan,

Here is another one of these posts where the replies are screwed up. My second reply was added to the post prior to my first one....

Strange, because the last two end up having the same date and time.

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues for November 2002

Hi Dan,

When a question is moved, the link "This question has been moved. Click here to view." is left in it's place.

That link should go directly to the relocated question -- NOT to the forums area where the question is ... somewhere.

It's a minor hassle to follow a link when a question gets moved, but it's a major panus in the anus to then have to hunt (and hunt and hunt) for the question in the "correct" forums area.

Thanks,
Jim

Hi Dan

Thanks for the reply to my earlier question.

However, time for another quick rant about the search engine. I am on the European Site and I seem to be able to search the ITRC Forums ok, but cannot get any results from the Patch Database.

Typical, the one time I decide I really ought to do something about the errors in the output from check_patches I am thwarted. Ho hum. Only 3 days till the weekend.

Cheers

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues for November 2002

Hello,

I have been increasingly more frustrated lately with the amount of "Page not found" errors when I'm trying to post responses to people's questions. It happens whenever, especially when I least expect it. I have to close all browser windows and re-login.

This has only started happening recently.

What's goin' on, man???

Other than that, I'm cool.

Hi Dan,

I concur w/ Hilary; the e-mail notifications appear to be random.

A suggestion, tho it could probably been raised b4:
Allow search within sub-categories.

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues for November 2002

Dan,

I hate to jump on this yet again, but I have to agree with Jim. The order of responses to questions is getting so jumbled as to be unintelligible. You can't read a thread and make any sense of it.

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues for November 2002

Hi Dan:

I'm sorry to say but the inconsistency in time keeping is going beyond annoying and becoming demeaning to the image of this Forum in my opinion. Here's another case:

http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0x0f610fe6d0f7d61190050090279cd0f9,00.html

When can we have an explanation and a fix?

Regards!

And there's a great example: I obviously posted after JRF, because I was agreeing with him. However if you try to read this thread in sequence and make any sense of it - well - there is none.

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues for November 2002

Dan,

And, as long as I'm seconding other people's complaints, here's a person who apparently had difficulties assigning points:

http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0xf65c0fe6d0f7d61190050090279cd0f9,00.html

With all the dunning about assigning points in order to increase the overall value of the forums, don't you think the assignment method at least ought to work?

Here is another example of time sync. Moments before, when I posted my response, it showed up as first one; and now its way down. I also see that Harry's second response has arrived before his first response!!

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues for November 2002

Dan,

Today, when I try to search, I get:
could not login

Hewlett-Packard regrets this service is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later.

(Error 200)

The forums say:
Welcome, John Payne!
(CA657142)

Like I am logged in, and the itrc maintainence side has me logged in, so I am confused as to where the search site is complaining from.

Thanks

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues for November 2002

Dan,

I'm still fairly new to the forums (relative to most of the gurus here), but i'm wondering if it might not be better to just not move errant threads. It would save time for the folks moving them, as well as for those chasing them, and would perhaps make the users mis-posting them take notice when the reply rate is low. (I always try to mention that "such-and-such forum might be a better choice for this question" in my reply, as a gentle suggestion.)

Best Regards -- and thanks for such a great tool!

Hi Dan:

Here's another great example for the support team to debug with. Pete was able to respond a full four (4) minutes before the question was posed!

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues for November 2002

Hi Dan,

Looks like I'm now a victim of the rip in the ITRC space-time continium. Have a look at this thread:
http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0xf4660fe6d0f7d61190050090279cd0f9,00.html

I read the first reply and put my reply in minutes later as the second reply. Imagine my surprise when I went back to the post and saw my reply first! I somewhat reference the (real) first reply, so the change in order really farks things up.

Has nobody in the ITRC shop heard of NTP?

Cheers,
Jim

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues for November 2002

Most excellent! My spelling correction reply appears "before" I made the spelling mistake!!!

Am I good or what? Or maybe it's some sort of predictive spelling correction?
