Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Successes - July 2002!

Hi Everyone,

Sorry for the late post -- was out of the office for two weeks!

Once again, please submit your highlights and successes you have had while using the ITRC Forums. Your feedback helps convey the positive influences the forums have had on your IT life. For example, have you:

1. Posted a question and received a key answer that solved your problem?
2. Have you viewed a message thread that had a solution to a problem you were trying to solve?
3. Found the Forums to be of particular help in sharing information, exchanging best practices, or saving you time?

I'd really like to hear from everyone -- your circumstances, the issues, the outcome, who was of help, time saved, etc.! If you have examples to share, please provide the URL of the thread if possible.

Thanks in advance for your input!

Best Regards,
Dan Gazzaniga

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Successes - July 2002!

Dan,

I have been fighting a problem with Auto Port Aggregation for several days here, and finally had the time to post to the forums today.

David Bell totally took the time to keep looking at the posts, and looked up the resolution, where I was not paying attention... He saved me problibly a weeks frustration, since I have so much work to do around here.

Hope it helps

Welcome back, Dan. I hope you were off on vacation and not slaving away off site somewhere. It must have been the week(s) for vacations. Paula was off to Dubai on holiday. Procura was also off somewhere. I was off to a class. I'm amazed they were able to get along without us all.

Hi DAN,

nice Greetings from Germany, This month I allready posted two messages in the Forum. And the first one was solved very quickly. But for the second one I'm still waiting. OK two thing I don't like on this forum are:
The performance is really bad and the most people I answer doesn't assign at least one point. But in summary I really like it. and sorry for that bad english :)

ok back to reality

cheers

I'd just like to say that I really love this forum. I have posted several questions in the past year, and every one of them has been answered. Not only are they answered, but they are answered very quickly! I really appreciate the time and effort that the members of this forum spend to help each other out. The help that I have received has prompted me to try and help others (as much as I am able anyway).

Thanks Everyone!

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Successes - July 2002!

As is always suggested, I search for threads regarding questions I have.

On a weekly basis, I find a number threads of interest, even if the subject had not yet been considered.

This week I have instituted a performance report on our HP-UX Nclass machines based on threads of the uses of glance.

Aside from the experts out there I find a number of relatively new users, like myself, that supply very good solutions to problems and questions in general.

Many of the current skills I have obtained are directly attributable to the forum.

Hi Merijn!

You have an anomoly in the statistics that I enjoy so much!. You reported that Theo Hill was promoted to wizard status, but that's untrue. The individual has 505 points in the *business* forum and 581 points (as a graudate) in the *ITRC* forum. Clearly, you are combining the totals. Of course, congratulations *are* in order to him, but I thought you'd like to know...

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Successes - July 2002!

My points try to add *ALL* total points, not only the hp-ux forum. I probably can change that, but I guess I loose a lot of other statistics too.

As you can see in the score there was some jojo effect. I've now guarded the stats that if an overview page states less points than the last report, it will keep the old value, so one can never `loose' points.

I bet the jojo was caused by the dynamic nature of the pages in which one of the total points for a category was omitted (temporary) and thus reporting less than the real total points earned.

According to Webster's:

Anomaly 1: deviation from the common rule: irregularity 2: the angular distance of a planet from the perihelion as seen from the sun 3: something different, abnormal, peculiar, not easily classified

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Successes - July 2002!

Hi (again) Hi Merijn:

Sorry, my misspelling. The word is "anomaly" and means something abnormal, incongruous or inconsistent.

I chose to call the promotion an "anomaly" because in the ITRC side he is a "graduate" and not a "wizard".

I still applaud your work and your statistics, though. :-)

Both, thanks for the translation :)

jojo: yoyo

That's all my on-line dictionary gives. It's a round plaything that winds up to go up and winds off to go down and up and down and up and ... Some fun versions even mak music if you do it right, others stay tumbling when you don't pull them up.

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Successes - July 2002!

hmmmz,

jojo? well that would be a yo-yo ;-)
- A small toy which most likely originated in China. The first historical mention of the yo-yo, however, was from Greece in the year 500 B.C
- For the morbid minds: a yo-yo was used as a weapon in the 16th century in the Philippines

And as a picture says more than thousand words:

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Successes - July 2002!

Hi Dan

Great forum

I came here basically for HP OpenView but as most of our customer are on hollidays and the market is kind of slow, I have plenty time trying to solve problems on other subjects too

So I've been able to help in plenty other forums ( Sometimes I found out because the author says so or just gives plenty points !! )

I've learned a lot
sometimes just reading the questions/answer
but more often trying to find the answer by myself
( -> Because just reading again and again the complete manual is kind of boring, isn't it ?
But searching in it for "real" questions, that's better )

I guess it will help me more my coming HP-OV Certification ... ( I promised myself I would try it after receiving my wizard hat ... )

Without a forum like this, it's difficult to get motivated in playing with my own NMS to discover bugs, tricks, best ways to do, ...

So thanks again

Fred
Why should I bother ? The problem will be gone with the next release ...
