Please submit your ITRC Forums Successes - September 2002
Please submit your highlights and successes you have had while using the ITRC Forums. Your feedback helps convey the positive influences the forums have had on your IT life. For example, have you:
1. Posted a question and received a key answer that solved your problem?
2. Have you viewed a message thread that had a solution to a problem you were trying to solve?
3. Found the Forums to be of particular help in sharing information, exchanging best practices, or saving you time?
I'd really like to hear from everyone -- your circumstances, the issues, the outcome, who was of help, time saved, etc.! If you have examples to share, please provide the URL of the thread if possible.
Thanks in advance for your input!
Best Regards,
Dan Gazzaniga

Re: Please submit your ITRC Forums Successes - September 2002
I had a question about digging into patches. I needed a patch that required 5 other patches, and each of those required patches, ....it would take a while to DIG through this twisted ball of yarn. So.... I submitted a forum entry about digging through the patches. I got a few good answers: Use Quality Packs. Use the CUSTOM PATCH MANAGER. And I see that since that time HP has modified how you get the patches. I see that the additional required patches show up with the one patch requested. Very nice.
I had two different versions of MC/Service Guard on two different nodes. From the forums I discovered that: 1. A node can belong to only ONE cluster. 2. You can't have two different versions of MC/Service Guard in the same cluster (the nodes don't like it at all). I discovered this somewhat painfully on one maintenance day. The biggest help was a little better understanding on how this stuff works. I also got help on how to clear out the old node with the old version of MC/Service Guard.
One time I upgraded one of the HP9000's from HPUX10.2 to HPUX11.0. It did this by rebuilding from scratch. But the new software would not completely load because I could not get the lan cards to run. And the swinstall required a working lan card. From the forums Rita Workman got me the patches I needed. I did have ONE working lan card. That one card was enough to let me load patches (Rita told me about) for the other cards. Then I went on my merry way.

Re: Please submit your ITRC Forums Successes - September 2002
I've posted several questions that provided me with the exact answer I was looking for.
But more often just searching the questions points me in the right direction for the solution that I'm looking for.
They are definitely well worth the time and effort HP puts into them.
I hate to say it, but often they are more effective, and MUCH faster than trying to call support.

The countries are back! Yeah!
I don't have the stats available from here (home), but thursday stats (a two week period) has been updated on https://www.beepz.com/personal/merijn/#Statistics
If posting still works from home, I could try to add the fast list and weekly avarages.
