Porting VMS print queues to HP-UX 11.0 print server

I have been tasked with moving (porting) all VMS print
queues to our unix print server. The print
server has HP-UX 11.0. Does anyone know of a paper outlining the procedure. Or does anyone have any guidance as to how I'd do this.
Thanks!

I'm not aware of any "porting" procedures, but I do know you will have to set up each manually. Your best bet for documentation is http://docs.hp.com or books at http://www.hp.com/hpbooks/

I think you are talking "apples" and "oranges" here.

Are the printers on Jetdirect boxes/cards?

If so then you can use hpnpadmin (under /opt/hpnpl/bin) to configure them for HPUX printer queues.

If your VMS print queues had macro libraries assigned for pre-processing, then you will have to write new pre-processing instructions and add them to the print queue driver script.

The first thing to do is to look at the printers themselves. Are the printers supported on HP-UX? If they are HP printers, you should not have any problems. If they are old DEC printers like the LN03, I'm not sure they are supported. You would need to open a call to the ITRC.

If your VMS print queues are fancy (i.e use FORMs or LIBRARies) you may not be able to duplicate them on HP-UX.
