I have a small issue with a Lan card you might be able to help me with - I previously had a PCI 4-Port Lan card in an A500 but replaced it with a single port PCI Lancard - The new card has become lan5 but I need it to be lan1 - I have tried removing the driver & then rmsf -a /dev/lan1/lan2/lan3/lan4/lan5 and the same for the /dev/diag/lan* files....I reload the driver and it comes back up as bloody lan5 again - Any ideas would be greatly appreciated....
thanks in advance

Re: PPA Numbers on Lan Cards
you have to change the instance of the lan card in the kernel.
Try this link below,
http://us-support3.external.hp.com/cki/bin/doc.pl/sid=0dcd8f8b19b4df85da/screen=ckiDisplayDocument?docId=500000000092511
Hope this helps.

Re: PPA Numbers on Lan Cards
Have you tried performing the change in single-user (or maintenance) mode?
Hope this helps. Regards.

Re: PPA Numbers on Lan Cards
I think if you follow the following discussion (in order), ending with Carsten Krege's explanation and using his attached code (appropriately) you will be able to resolve your problem:
http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0x52c6cf38d6bdd5118ff10090279cd0f9,00.html
...and Carsten's explanation/solution appears here:
