Predictive Support software...useful?

Hello,

I found the software for 11i but cannot find it for 11.0. Does anyone know if I can just use 11i's or do you know where I can get it for 11.0. Also, the client really wants this software installed but they do not have an HP Support contract. The blurb on the software states that you have to have a support contract in order to use it. So would it be worth it to install it?

Think of it like this, the software is like a home security system, you can install it, but if you don't get the support, the system reports a problem to a black hole. It won't hurt anything to install the software however.

So you have to have the software support contract (the hardware is under warranty - but I assume they mean software support) as well as a call-home modem?

Yep you need both. But I am pretty sure you can get different levels (24x7, 8x5) of support for the call-home. The hardware support might be enough if you just want predictive support and HAO.

I can't read the FAQ, I don't have authorization to do so.

Has anyone seen what kind of information/data it comes up with to send to HP? Is it something an admin can read and make recommendations on? Like is it just SAR data and that sort of thing?

One thing to be aware of is that Predictive in it's current state is going away. HP has not made any annoucements about it publicly as far as I know, but we have had talks with some HP guys who are developing the replacement. That may change your idea on whether it is useful or not. I personally find that we know about problems on the box before HP and we've had a CE call us 3 days after we first discovered a problem.
