If this is the same path that was previously configured, you don't have to do anything.
Just do a "vgchange -a y /dev/vg_name" and it will again activate the vg. You can do this on the fly for an already active VG.
If this path is different than the previously configured path, you can do vgreduce and vgextend. This also can be done on the fly and no need to deactivate / reactivate the vg.

some times ago I was in the same situation as you. I had vg's configured with double path to an external storage system.
After a power outage one of the path was not reachable at all from the server during the boot stage.
Thus the vg's were activated with a single path: there was no way to re-use the other path. We were forced to de-activate and re-activate all vg's.
