print configuration errors
We have just setup a new Hp-Ux server and I am in the process of setting up all of our printers. I have setup most of the printers through sam. The trouble I am having is when a job gets sent to one the printers I keep getting a error message that says: waiting for (IP#) to be enabled. I have enabled and disable and re-enabled this many times but still gives me the same message.
Also when doing a lpstat -t output shows jobs in this printers queue but when I do a lpstat on this particular printer it says no jobs in queue and waiting to be enabled (shows ip #) We are using IP numbers to set up printers in Unix.
Can anyone help?? I'm really feeling the pressure on this one.
THANKS!!
Susie

Re: print configuration errors
After installing the OS, did you install the latest patch bundle ? Which OS release is it, what month?

Re: print configuration errors
Our system was just installed in December. we are on 11.i I don't know for sure what version we are on since I'm at home right now. But I have just recieved some updates from hp last week. Which I have not applied yet.
Is there something I should look for?
Thanks, Susie

Re: print configuration errors
Here are some things to look at:
Can you ping the IP address for this printer?
Does your name resolution return the correct IP address for this printer? Does nslookup returnt the right answers when you lookup by IP and by printer name?
What type of printer is this one? Are you setting it up as a remote printer or as a network printer [JetDirect]?

Re: print configuration errors
I'd recommend installing at least this patch. Here is part of the description. Sounds like your problem.
PHCO_28259
When a printer is disabled, the currently printing job remains in the queue and doesn't get printed even after the printer is enabled.
There is also a cumulative SAM patch, that you should install. (PHCO_27374)
Note that these are not inlcuded in the lastest patch bundle sets. You'll need to download them.

Re: print configuration errors
What sort of printers are they.
HPPI is the best for HP and there are options for other makes of printer.
The patches suggested may help but if you have a printer with an itteligent network card you are best to use intelligent software to set it up
