/etc/lp/interface and /etc/lp/interface/model.orig could make interesting reading, although that depends what you are trying to do.

Also worthy of note is /usr/spool/lp/request/printername

Although not directly useful for what you want I find it extremely handy to be able to see what is queued to print.

a printer does not seem to be working properly, it has a different configuration file compared to one which is. I need to change this so that it is the same as the other one to check if this is where the problem lies. is this the file in /etc/lp/interface/(printername)

Yes it is.

You can also use hppi and/or SAM to look at the model script that the printer is using.

This could be easier than trying to copy interface scripts about the place.

Oh they both get involved, this is taken from /etc/lp/interface/printer

# This script invokes the original model script from the
# subdirectory model.orig and pipes its output to hpnpf.


So I would try diff /etc/lp/interface/printerthatworks /etc/lp/interface/printerthatdoesnt
and
diff /etc/lp/interface/model.orig/printerthatworks /etc/lp/interface/model.orig/printerthatdoesnt

Although it is still easier to just remove the printer and recreate it using hppi and/or SAM.
