printer configuration problem with sam

Hello,

I have problem with the printer configuration on a HP S2000 with SPPUX5.3 (almost similar to HPUX10.01).

If I try to open "Printers and Plotters" sam quits with an error. Follow entries were written to samlog:

===== Fri Oct 20 10:45:53 2006 Entering SAM area "Printer and Plotters (serv_9)".
ERROR Syntax Error: /usr/sam/lib/lp/lp.tm at line 1:
Location: tm_parse:2263
Error Code: 7159

do you have an idea?

Thanks for your assistance.

Re: printer configuration problem with sam

Jan,
has SAM worked before for printer setup or have you installed anything ?

Recheck the status of your packages:
swlist -l fileset -a state SystemAdmin*
swlist -l fileset -a state

If needed, configure unconfigured sets:
"man swconfig"
swconfig \*

Re: printer configuration problem with sam

Hi,

all packages are configured.

The initial printer setup was done with sam, but sam is not used very often on this machine.

Re: printer configuration problem with sam

HP-UX 10.xx has been out of support for several years. I don't know where you can find patches for SPPUX or if swinstall will allow HP-UX patches to be applied to your system. Perhaps your sales rep can locate SPPUX patches. Otherwise, about the only thing you can do is to record a list of all your printers with lpstat:

lpstat -v

Then delete all the printers using lpadmin -x and make sure that in /var/spool/lp the files pstatus, qstatus and outputq are zero length. Then see if sam runs correctly.

Re: printer configuration problem with sam

Hi,

swinstall does not allow to install patches for HP-UX 10.xx on SPP-UX.

I deleted all printers, check pstatus, qstatus and outputq, but sam don't runs correct.

Re: printer configuration problem with sam

Hi,
if you can not load patches, I can only suggest you re-install SAM or/and undo anything you may have done since SAM was last working.
Re-install is probably quicker.
Sorry.
