printer configure problem
Hi,
I have one print queue server on w2k and one server is HPUX 11.11. When I configure the remote printer on HPUX server. How can I know what is the filter shoule be used in /var/spool/lp/modem?? In fact, I would like to use PCL5 but I check (vi) the /var/spool/lp/interface/"print_queue_name" that is most of "BSD". Would you help and teach me how can I configure it.

Re: printer configure problem
When setting up remote printers to another OS like Win2k or XP, you need to have the printer shared AND enable TCP/IP print server (XP calls it Print Services for UNIX, which is not installed by default)
Then I use SAM to setup the remote printer on the system, if you have DNS working well you can simply enter in the server and printer name. Then SAM will check to make sure it is there before you finish.
I've never had to touch the driver file, it sends the print job directly in PCL format. If anything you may need to tweak the Windows side for the printer

Re: printer configure problem
In the SAM open Printer and Plotter section.
Here click Actions-->Add Remote Printer/Ploter write Printer Name, Remote System Name and Remote Printer Name with the name of printer is called in win2k/xp, and select Remote Printer is on a BSD System.
In the /etc/hosts write the name of the Remote System Name and the ip.
#ps -ef | grep lpsched
lpsched is running ---> ok
Be sure that name Remote Printer Name is equal in the win2k/xp o.s. and the services tcp/ip printer and spooler is up.

Sorry, my english is very.. very... poo

Re: printer configure problem
I don't know if this is true but it could be relevant to what you are doing.
The W2K printer was setup and working. To this printer I am adding a remote printer device in HPUX 11.00. Everything looks good but it is not printing.
The MS Admin said he changed the print driver in use on the WIN box to PCL5e and it started working. It was set at PCL5.
Again I don't know if true, just told this by the WIN admin. But seeing you are doing remote to a WIN printer using the PCL5 driver, I'll put it in.
