Re: printer setup problem

Hi James,

You'll find the option to add a local printer under hp spooler. You cannot add a third party printer as a network printer. But you can add the printer as a printer local to the system connected to the local parallel port of the system. The option will be availble under "hp spooler".

Hope this helps.

Re: printer setup problem

Hi James:

It depends upon whether you want this to be a directly connected printer or a newwork printer. If you want this to be a network printer, your best bet is to purchase an external JetDirect which in turn connects to your printers parallel port. In the case of JetDirect or a direct attachment, you are allowed to choose a printer model and you would probably choose 'dumb'. You are able to add a directly connected printer in SAM and you install a JetDirect printyer with either the 'jetadmin' command or its newer equivalent.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

and text file and man help pages.

Re: printer setup problem

Hi James:

It's not clear whether you were successfull. You need to make sure that the CentIf driver in 'In' your kernel and that you have created the device node for the parallel port. You can do this within SAM. After that, you should be able to add a local printer either within SAM or via the lpadmin command. Again, in your case, I would choose the 'dumb' interface file.
