Printer won't print after IP-change

Over the last weekend we have implemented our new IP-plan.
On our HPUX 11.00 machine I've changed the printer IP-address through Jetadmin. Also changed the entry in /etc/hosts and the entry in /etc/bootptab.
Rebooted the system, and stopped & started lpsched. Test-pages from jetadmin print fine but no other jobs are printed.
Did I forget to change something ??

Re: Printer won't print after IP-change

This is a common enough problem. The easy way to fix it is to simply remove the printer completely and add it back in again. Somewhere HP-UX has remembered either the old IP or the old Mac address and it needs to be cleaned out. Trying to diagnose exactly what is wrong may take some time, try the easy route and delete it then add it back in.

Re: Printer won't print after IP-change

Hi Maarten,

Congrats on the IP Addresses change over. Now telnet into the jetadmin print server and look at the parameters. Just do a telnet, verify the ip addressing. Also check the naming convention of your printers.

Cheers!

Stephan is *absolutly* correct.
Just delete and create the printer again.
It solved my problems with 30+ printers after changing IP addresses.

Re: Printer won't print after IP-change

In the model directory where the printer info is stored is a line that says PERIPH=XXXXX. Sometimes these entries are IP addresses or names. If IP address, just change to the new IP. If names, check to make sure you are still resolving via the name and the new IP address.

I have the entry in /etc/lp/interface/

Re: Printer won't print after IP-change

JetAdmin works fine with name resolution using either /etc/hosts or DNS. You may want to define the hard IP addresses using either of the methods so that a simple IP change is all that is required down the street. One negative effect of deleting a printer is that the spooler is momentarily bumped and any jobs being output at the time will usually restart from the beginning (not good on a job with thousnads of pages).

Re: Printer won't print after IP-change

go to /var/spool/lp/interface directory. edit the interface file name which will be same as your printer name. you will find IP address in this file. change the printer IP address with the new IP address and it should work.

Re: Printer won't print after IP-change

Are these HP printers? Print a status page for one of them and see if the IP changes are there. If the IP address is assigned staticly, change it. Have you cycled the power to the printers? You will have to do that to get the new bootp info.
