Printing Architecture
I have been asked by my manager to prepare a printing architecture document for our company. We have a mixture of Unix and Windows systems. Does any one have a similar document.
Appreciate your help.

Re: Printing Architecture
the archtitectural details for HP-UX box can obtained b running print_manifest command.
or by echo "selall;info;wait;infolog"|cstm > /tmp/system.log
command.
Not clear on what exactly you want.

Re: Printing Architecture
Well, there are basically 3 different printing architectures available:
- PCL, for small printing capacity/requirements, e.g. up to 20-30 pages per minute (read: HP developed, I believe).
- PostScript, for medium size printing capacity (up to approx. 200-300 ppm) and colour printing including large support for graphics.
- AFP (Advanced Function Presentation) for large capacity printing (up to 1000+ pages per minute)
For PCL and PS, you should be able to plug and play as you are running Win+Unix, but you'll need a printer server + software from IBM with the AFP printer Server software in order to run AFP.
Xerox also has an architecture called MetaCode... forget about it.
Hope it helps.

Re: Printing Architecture
Sorry, I forgot to mention that I am not looking for a real techcinal document.
This document should serve as a guideline while implementing printing solutions, explaining the various printing solutions available and the pros and cons of each. More like a Policy doument.
