Printing Barcode Fonts from HPUX

I have a need to print barcodes from UNIX. How might I do this? Can it be done using downloadable fonts as opposed to a SIMM chip? The chip scares do to the fact that printers can be replaced and thus I would need to buy a new chip every single time. Any information is helpful.

It's been a while since I did barcoding, but I know that it can be done either way. I personally prefer the downloadable version myself! I'm sorry I don't have any more info on this, but it was several years (5?) and a few states back. I could probably get more info if you need, but I would contact HP and see what they have, and then go to some 3rd party vendors and see what they have.

Hi Roger!

What type of printer are you using? I know that for some printers you must have the JetCAPS Intelligent Bar code SIMM board for your printer. (OSS Note Number = 45643)

If you do not already have one you can obtain this SIMM card from Hewlett-Packard. I believe that this is the only supported bar code SIMM module for HPLJ4 printers.
