Re: Printing getting slow over time...
try taking a copy of the outputq file, and nulling the original, then retstart lp.
If this doesn't make a difference, it could be the qstatus or pstatus file. I think you can follow the same procedure with them.
If you get problems after nulling the file, copy the original back in.

Re: Printing getting slow over time...
I've got nothing to offer you but sympathy, one question and a possibly similar situation.
Here the sympathy
;^(
Here's the question
You say these are remote, but then you say they're defined with an IP address, but then you say they're BSD. Using an IP address would imply a network printer rather than a remote, but the BSD option implies remote rather than network. Can you elucidate for me?
Here's the possible similar situation
http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=501230
I'm going to post a cross link in my
"similar" thread so if we get any insights, hopefully we'll both get them.

Re: Printing getting slow over time...
How do you define your printers? Do you use SAM?
If so, can you tell me what you select under Printers and Plotters => LP Spooler => Printers and Plotters => Actions? Do you select the "Add Remote Printer/Plotter" button or do you select the "Add Network-Based Printer/Plotter" button?.
If you don't use SAM, can you tell me what you do use?
