Hey all! My customer has alerted me to some kind of printing issue. We have several L3000s running 11.11 that are attempting to print through various NT remote print servers to a number of label printers. Currently, one of the UNIX servers is unable to print jobs. (We have two servers in production, but one of them is only lightly used and is not in use on this shift and we have received no word if it is able to print or not.)
On both servers (as well as the development backups), lpstat commands simply hang. If you specify a printer with jobs attempting to go out, it will list those jobs, and then hang until you hit CTRL-C. I have tried cancelling all the jobs on the server, and stopping and starting the print spooler. Nothing has changed as far as the hanging lpstat, and though I haven't yet called the customer back, I don't believe print jobs are going through yet.
Any ideas? The fact that lpstat is hanging on all our servers rather concerns me, but then agian the customer is able to issue jobs from NT servers. I'm not sure what's going on.

Re: Printing issue, and lpstat hangs
First thing to look at is log file. What does it say?? (var/adm/lp/log)
When you restart the spooler, start it as "lpsched -v" and check log files.
Can you reach/ping remote printers??

Solution
Hello Matt,
Check out patch PHCO_33401 which addresses lp-subsystem errors. We experienced a similar issue when sending output to Windows Print Servers. This patch did help with some of the lpstat issues.
