Hi,

Do the printers have JetDirects??

Re: Printing on HP-UX 11

The easiest way is to use sam, following the path:
sam-->Printers and Plotters-->LP Spooler

If you are using HP JetDirect card and have installed JetAdmin on your system, another option is JetAdmin.

SAM->printer and plotters->Lp spooler->printer and plotters

Re: Printing on HP-UX 11

Thank you everyone having replied

I have a few jetdirects but have more print server emulators running and accepting requests from queues defined on my server.

My current printers are all dot matrix printer printing character mode reports.

In fact, i want to replace some of them with deskjets and laserjet printers.

What I want to know is: how do i configure them on the server side so that the "graphical" printjobs going to the print servers is ok

thank you very much for a reply

Re: Printing on HP-UX 11

I have a similar situation. I am using many non-hp printers for account report printing and warehouse bar code printing.

Actually, if you have installed JetAdmin on you system, and you are using JetDirect card connected your printers to your hp box, JetAdmin always is a good choice, no matter the printer's model, another option is sam, sam has more friendly interface and you always can get more on-line helps when you meet some problems. You have two pathes when you use sam:

path1:
sam-->Printers and Plotters-->Lp Spooler-->Printers and Plotters

path2: use HPDPS service
sam-->Printers and Plotters-->HP Distributed Print Service

When you using non-hp printer, the only thing you need to concern is whether the print can work well with hp network card, so maybe you need check it out with the printer's vender. If you are using non-hp network card, trying to set up the printer as 'remote printer' instead of 'network printer'.

Before you finish your set up, don't forget to check you /etc/hosts file.

Good luck.
