Printing problem
Hi,
Our users are having some strange printing problems. While the job(check) is being printed, some extra characters(garbage) shows up. It started all of sudden, still we couldn't isolate the issue. It happend only in particular location for mutiple same type of printers(HP Laserjet 4100).
Is "Extended systems" printers same as HP laserjet printers? When I connect to printer using http it says company name as extended systems. There is no model name.
Could this be a model script issue?
Any help is really appreciated.
Thanks.

Re: Printing problem
I believe you mean Extended Systems print servers, and no, these are not the same as HP JetDirect interface cards. HP printers can be ordered with or without an HP JetDirect card. HP JetDirect cards are configured in HP-UX in a proprietary manner (ie, port 9100), or they can be configured as dumb printer servers (RFC 1170 or lpr/lpd protocol) like most non-HP print servers (ie, LAN-to-printer adapters).
Now it is not clear what you mean by http connections. Is this a web page interface to perform the printing or a configuration web page? Many print server LAN cards have a built-in web server for configuration of the LAN card (including newer HP JetDirect cards). However, if the printer you are viewing with a web page says "Extended Systems" then that printer is not connected using an HP JetDirect card.
As far as the strange characters, you'll have to start with networking troubleshooting. Are the problem printers on a specific subnet? Is the subnet on a WAN? Do you have any HP JetDirect printers on that subnet (use a web page to connect to each printer on that subnet...HP JetDirect web pages are very different and will have extensive LAN statistics and printer information). Are the exttra characters always the same or are they random? Do these extra characters show up on all print jobs or just one specific type of print job? Is the problem print job repeatable? Can you print the same job on a local printer without problems?
