printing to a network printer HP Laserjet5i from HP-UX
Hi guys ,
i have a problem on a HP Laserjet 5Si printer View this thread
http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=439108
I could not find the LF-CR option to turn it on..I guess that this is a problem of missing filters... that the carriage return does not also send the next line to the first column ... but since this printer is a network printer.. i was wondering even if i find this LF-CR option ,will turning it on affect my other users printing from windows.. what do i do ?
if this is the only solution where is this option on the laserjet 5
thanx

Hi Victor,
On some printers you can switch it on in the printer front painel.

Re: printing to a network printer HP Laserjet5i from HP-UX
Victor,
Do you have this printer installed as a network printer or a remote printer? If you've got it installed as a remote printer, you could always remove it and re-install it as a network printer if it's got a JetDirect card in it. Doing so should take care of the issue you're having.
The program you need to use to install the printer as a network printer is hppi. Remove the printer from the spooler, then use hppi to recreate it as a network printer.
Also, for the record, the stair-step issue is caused because UNIX only sends a LF. An LF is what doesn't return the cursor to the left margin. CR does (that's why it's called a return).
Regards,
Seth

Re: printing to a network printer HP Laserjet5i from HP-UX
I just saw another thread talking about HPPI and it had the URL for the latest installer:
http://www.hp.com/go/hppi_sw
Even though the version at this link is from 2002, it was newer than what I had installed on my system. Easy to download and easy to install (check the installation notes as they want you to uninstall your current version before installing the newer one).
Also, check the swinstall results as the install adds a tftp user and home directory and may make changes to your inetd.conf.
Regards,
Seth
