Printing to remote printers with names longer than 14 chars. Possible?
it is possible to print, under HP-UX, to print to a remote printer with a queue name longer than 14 characters? That queue is located on a W2K machine. Why? The company I work for hs defined a standard for printer/queue names, these names are 15 characters long. Now I know that a printer name defined locally on a HP box can not exceed 14 characters, but does the same restriction apply to remote queue names?
Thanks, Edgar.

Re: Printing to remote printers with names longer than 14 chars. Possible?
The spooler code is written for 14 and all I can say is try it. I suspect you will have problems.
There are 2 solutions :
1) Modify your remote queue name to be only 14 characters long.
2)Choose another spooler which supports longer names. DPS for instance.

Re: Printing to remote printers with names longer than 14 chars. Possible?
There is a SAM limitation that you used to be able to get around by tweaking /usr/sam/lib/C/lp.ui but there is also a limitation (that you see with remote printers) because it requires a change in lpspool. Currently lpspool cannot handle queue names greater than 14 characters. There's a change request for this to be addressed ER #5003342543 and #5003422477.
Best Wishes,
Cheryl
