Printing very large PDF from HP-UX 11i
I am having trouble printing very large PDF files (8000 pages +). The print job starts ok but then stops and never continues. During the process of sending the large PDF file jobs there are transmission errors. This causes the printer to go back to a last known good printed page and continue the print jobs from the last known good printed page; this means the printer makes a lot of duplicate copies for each error. Like the other day, there were over 1,000 duplicate invoices printed I am trying to print to an HP9000 high capacity printer. Can anyone help here. All other jobs print ok including smaller PDF jobs.

Re: Printing very large PDF from HP-UX 11i
is /var/spool filling?
I initially suspect kernel params and/or memory.
I'd also recommend upgrading your pdf reader and lp spool software as well as any parallel/serial drivers - better yet, just patch your box with a recent QPK.
Later,
Bill

Re: Printing very large PDF from HP-UX 11i
It could be that due to the size of the job, the printer is exceeding a timeout value.
We used to get this on print jobs from SAP (2000+ pages).
In our case, to fix the problem, we simply changed the "idle timeout" value on the printer config from 30 seconds to 0 seconds (disabled).
If it's connected to your network, you can probably just telnet to the printer to make this change.
