Printing with HP JetDirect

Printing with HP JetDirect

I have a networked system using HP JetDirect to queue all print requests based on a Windows 98 which runs fine.
I have software which runs on a unix based server.
My problem is setting up the unix server to print to the printers on the '98 network.
I was wondering if anyone had a solution to this, or if someone else has had a similar problem.

Re: Printing with HP JetDirect

Hi,

If I have understood correctly, the print server is Win98, correct?

You have 2 options for unix printing -

1. Define a remote queue on unix telling that print server is Win98 server.

2. Load jetadmin software on unix(HP) server, and configure the print-queue as network printer using SAM.

Manjeet you have understood correctly, and I was wondering if you can give more information on your first option, of defined a remote queue.

Re: Printing with HP JetDirect

OK, get the remote print-queue name from Win98. Now use SAM to define this print-queue on your HP server. Choose the remote printer, for remote system - put name (or IP) of Win98 server, and in the print-queue section, put the queue name. The queue-name shouldn't have dashes (-), SAM doesn't like it. Choose BSD option. That's it!

(Sorry for being so generic - I don't have any HP server nearby at this time)

Re: Printing with HP JetDirect

Hi

The remote option works well but will not give full printer functionality.

Go to http://www.hp.com/cposupport/networking/support_doc/bpj06765.html#P1_54

And download and install the HPPI software for HP-UX

This for 2 reasons

1)You can use full printer functionality then

2)If your 98 box goes down for any reason you can still print from HP-UX

The software is well documented and easy to use

Re: Printing with HP JetDirect

HPPI (JetAdmin) only works with printservers like HP170X and LaserJet Build-In Networkcards.
Not with Printservers like Dlink.

Use HPPI, type the IP-Adress for printserver, define a QUEUE-Name and choose a Modelscript.

Thats all.
