Printronix Printer Configuration

Hi All
Iwant to install a printronix p5000 with my hpux box which is running hpux 11.11 as a network printer through Printjet networkcard installed in the printer .and iam following the below procedure .
Enter SAM and add a Remote Printer;

Remote printer -> Printers & Plotters -> Printers & Plotters -> Actions -> Add Remote Printer.

Printer name = Test
Remote system name = IP address of PrintNet Adapter or the name in the hosts file.
Remote printer name = d1prn (This entry is case sensitive.)
Remote printer is on a BSD system = yes (This is tried with yes/no both options)
With this procedure while giving the command from hp box using lp -d instead of printing its just keep on ejecting the paper . Can you tell me what is the procedure to install the printer and what emulation that i should use in the printer side

I assume you have one of the HP jetdirect network card installed in the printer. You can download HP Jetadmin s/w for unix and install using swinstall (depot file).

SAM->Printers&plotters->LP spooler

Actions->Add network printer->Printer connected to HP Jetdirect.

Jetdirect printer installer for unix will open up main menu. Using option 3, you can configure IP address for the network card.
Next using option1->Add printer to local spooler->Enter IP address.

Input your IP address.

you can select your printer type based on what emulation supported on printronix P5000. In earlier HP printronix models 475,800,1200 PCL supported. IF PCL is supported, then you may select any of the old LJ printer like HP LJIII etc.

Otherwise safely you can select dump printer. It works fine.

In case if you are using Non-HP cards, from the printer side select dump printer.

In any case, for network printing requirements, hp servers and hp jetdirect cards (internal & external) go very well.

Hi Kamal,

It seems that communication to printer is ok as it is continuously ejecting paper on giving print. Here best way to check wheather it is a Jetdirect problem or emulation mismatch is to check up that with existing settings on printer end wheather it is printing normal from parallel port of the machine. In printer also you have to select parallel port while connecting to parallel port. Also check by using different emulation of printer end.

Hi Kamal,

The menu "Add remote printer" in same is ment for printer which is connected locally to other unix box not directly on network.

For configuring the printer on network you have to use HP Jetadmin software.

Once download and installed you can configure any number of network based printer. This is menu based utility.

Hi All
Thank you .for your reply .I following the procedure given in the printer manual .i got a littele progress now .now its printing only fist two lines of the file. rest all the things its not printing .I dont know what to do
