PRM Group limit

PRM Group limit

I added a 64th PRM group in our PRM config file. When attempting to load the new config file, I received an error that indicated that only 63 groups were allowed. Does anyone know if this group limit is a hard limit, or if there's some way to get around this limit?

Re: PRM Group limit

Hi Janis,

From the document

http://docs.hp.com/hpux/onlinedocs/B8733-90011/B8733-90011.html

"Configuring and Enabling PRM" -> Configuration Tips and requirements

//
FSS PRM group PRMID numbers must be in a range from 0 to 63 (PRMIDs for PSET PRM groups are assigned by PRM). PRMID 0 is reserved for the system group, PRM_SYS. PRMID 1 is reserved for the user default group, OTHERS. PRMID numbers must be uniquely assigned//

Looks like you are hitting that limit.

Re: PRM Group limit

Hi Janis,

This is a limit for the Fair Share Scheduler in the kernel. This has been increased to 256 in HP-UX 11iV2. This will be supported by the 3.0 version of PRM which will be available for download in March.

FYI, this limit is for FSS groups. If you also have PSETs, these are above the 64, so you can create more. However, these each take a minimum of a full CPU.
